Chapter 212 - 211: 'where were the others '?

"Wait, wait... I think we're missing something. We're stuck on this planet. We don't even know where we are... How are we supposed to get home?" Number 44 asked as everyone began to wake up.

"Oh shit... I knew it. They were playing with us," Number 23 muttered.

Many others voiced their thoughts, but suddenly, the already dim planet became completely dark. Still, it didn't affect them. Every single one of them had reached the planetary level—they could see even without light. Unlike mortal eyes that require light rays to perceive color, their eyes were the sun. They could see under any condition... well, unless affected by laws of darkness or something of that nature.

"What's that?" Number 38 said as everyone looked up.

It wasn't just that the sky was dark—it was because a gigantic spaceship hovered above them, its sheer mass blocking out all light and inducing a suffocating pressure in their hearts.

"I guess that's our ride," Number 5 said, appearing outside the planet.

Jake watched silently. He had no one left. Humanity had wiped out his entire race. Without a word, he turned back and entered the building, unnoticed by the others as they were all transported into space.

The massive spaceship had its doors open, and one by one, they all rushed in.

The Federation had been silent, its people anxiously awaiting the results of the trial. None of the beings who failed the trial had ever returned. No reports had been received—not even from the spies embedded among the candidates.

On the surface, everything appeared calm. But underneath, a deep unease spread like a virus.

Some believed all candidates had succeeded, and hope spread throughout the stars. That was until today—when a voice echoed across the multiverse:

"THE SURVIVORS OF THE DREADBORNE ORGANIZATION TRIAL WILL APPEAR SOON."

Excitement swept across the Federation. Organizations and factions stirred to attention, eager to know what the trial had entailed.

Everyone—except one being.

General Drezan.

He who had once survived a brutal encounter with the Sword Demon, now fully healed, felt his heart tremble at one word:

Survivors.

Why did that word terrify him? Why did he feel fear?

Back on the spaceship, the door still hadn't closed. They were wondering why—until a new wave of beings appeared.

Ashmarked, Bloodfang, and Voidspawn.

"Caius!" a voice rang out—Liya's. She rushed to Caius the moment she appeared. Before he could even speak, she grabbed him and vanished into one of the ship's many halls. The door slammed shut behind her so fast no one had time to react.

A loud roar echoed... followed by a low rumble... and then a deafening boom.

Someone rushed to the window and froze.

"W-We... where are we? Wait... this... this is my home?" a stunned being stuttered.

Everyone turned to look—and were completely shocked. They were now in another universe, but a familiar one.

How was this possible? This speed... it was unimaginable.

The ship's doors opened as that individual was teleported directly to his planet. He staggered, his steps unsteady. He knelt, grabbed a handful of sand, and stared at it for a long moment. His eyes grew blurry.

Then, he looked up—and the spaceship was already gone.

"Son..." a familiar voice called.

His body trembled. He looked again—and saw them.

His father. His mother. His siblings. His friends.

A soft smile formed on his lips as he walked toward them.

The spaceship was terrifyingly fast—and the fact that it somehow knew each being's home was both exhilarating and terrifying. Each survivor was delivered home, except for the dozen who belonged to the Federation Headquarters.

Within the inner city of the Federation, the First-Ranked Cosmic Executioner was speaking with Nephem.

"Chain of Madness... you know, letting them go might have been a mistake. Most of them survived only because they clung to their loved ones—watching them die again and again. Not all were cold-blooded killers. Only a few. Some were driven by hatred... but the rest survived by holding on to love," he said with a frown.

Nephem smiled faintly.

"I know. We know, Derek," he replied.

"We?" Derek blinked. "Does he mean... the other Chains? Seriously?" A nervous lump formed in his throat.

"Don't worry. Just do what we ask. You're all free to return home for a month too," Nephem added with a grin as he walked away.

Derek stood stunned, watching the figure disappear into the distance.

"Am I sure about any of this? I'm confused. I don't understand a thing about this organization," he muttered as he turned and walked off to inform the other Cosmic Executioners.

"All your moves, your plans, your thoughts... they're all in our palm," Nephem thought, grinning.

Eventually, the dozen remaining survivors were revealed to be from the Federation Headquarters—first-class citizens, organization members, military personnel, royalty, and aristocrats.

The spaceship opened its doors one final time, dropping them into the sky of their planet before vanishing.

"Wait... what??" Darez was stunned, glancing at those around him. Liya, Caius, Nim, himself, and eight others.

Before they could process anything, a suffocating pressure descended on them. An overwhelming aura locked onto them and crushed down.

They were back in the Federation.

Hundreds of powerful beings were gathered—spanning from the Galaxy Realm to the Universal Realm. Legendary figures from major organizations, the military, the aristocracy, and royalty had all arrived.

General Drezan stood among them.

"Wait... why are there only a dozen of you?" Drezan asked sharply, the unease in his chest swelling to unbearable levels.

The rest of the Federation remained silent, waiting for the survivors to speak.

They had all seen it: only a dozen had returned.

Which raised the real question—if only a dozen passed...

Where were the others?
