Chapter 52: Tiger Watching An Ant
Chapter 52 - Tiger Watching An Ant
A massive underground hall, almost completely empty, appeared before everyone. In the center, there was just a small two-meter altar, with something that looked like a book resting on top.
No one stepped in. Everyone focused on the floor inside.
Across the whole surface of the ground, violet markings were carved, looking like runes connected to each other. It was clearly made using the law of this universe. The mission's target had probably set it all up — maybe even built the castle above — to ensure its safety.
It was some kind of trap. The moment anyone even thought of stepping in, a strong sense of danger took over. Nayara spoke seriously:
"We need to beat him first, 'cause we have no clue what that thing really is. We'll move the second I activate the light dispersal artifact. After that, we wait. It'll last three minutes, but the target won't notice us and will move straight into the trap."
Everyone nodded and drew their weapons, ready.
Nayara's group was made up of a female tank, a female support, a male mage, and Eric, who was a fighter. Nayara herself was technically a support too, but once she activated her blessing, she was left without energy to fight, so she had to be protected. That's why she specialized in staying back, analyzing the battle and giving commands.
Everyone trusted her. She was well known for making solid calls and reading both enemies and allies easily.
"It's gonna be a surprise attack, so we go all in to deal max damage or finish him off right away," Nayara added calmly.
Darian nodded. Once the mission goal is complete, the Spiritual Guardians are automatically sent back to their own universe. But this mission had a double objective: kill the target and destroy the law core of this universe.
That core had to be close to this planet, since the target lived here. After beating him, they'd have time and safety to check out whatever that thing on the altar was, and then finish the mission.
Nayara pulled out two small round artifacts and attached them to the doors. Then she turned to the group and took out her last artifact. Everyone took a deep breath, and she activated it, creating a yellowish aura that covered the whole team.
"Go!"
Everyone immediately stepped inside.
Right after, Nayara triggered the door artifacts. The doors began to move and closed on their own.
*Buzz!*
A metallic hum echoed through the chamber. Everyone felt the markings on the floor light up. In just one second, a dense mist flowed out from those markings, spreading across the whole place.
'Oh?' Leander immediately looked at Nayara.
She got the message and turned to Eric and Harper, who both nodded.
Yeah — it was definitely a defense mechanism set by the enemy. That mist recreated something similar to the condition where the law shroud covers the planet. Inside, it made the enemy way stronger, making it nearly impossible for any invader to escape.
He designed it expecting to fight regular opponents, where he'd have absolute advantage under his law. His arrogance and ignorance would be his downfall.
'He's coming!' Leander warned.
It took less than two seconds. A wave of rage and power surged toward the place.
One second.
Nayara clenched her fists, feeling the approach through the door and the artifacts.
Two seconds.
'Now.'
*Crack!*
*BOOOM!*
The artifacts exploded with violent force. The doors shattered under a furious blast of flames and lightning, clearing a path straight into chaos.
A thick cloud of dust and destruction poured in from the other side of the door.
Matteo and a woman clad in earth armor — Nayara's group's Tank — charged forward in sync.
At the same time, Veyle and the other mage gripped their staves tightly, which lit up with a red energy. They closed their eyes, pouring all their focus and energy ahead.
Nayara took a deep breath and in an instant, her eyes lit up with a golden glow.
"The Shroud of Malice Law. Submit!"
Her voice echoed, her blessing activated, and the laws of the world twisted at her call.
A golden aura coming from her spread across every corner. The violet law that filled the place was transformed, like time had frozen the particles in the air and on the ground.
A double shout exploded from the frontline:
"DIE!"
*Clang! Clang!*
Darian couldn't see the fight up ahead, but the metallic sound of weapons clashing against a steel barrier filled the hall. Matteo and the Tank woman struck at the same time, their weapons hitting the enemy with precision.
Veyle and the other mage raised their staves, channeling their blessings. A thick white mist, mixed with a sand cloud, surged forward like an unstoppable tide.
*ROAR!*
A deep roar echoed, followed by a brutal impact sound.
*BANG!*
Two blood-covered figures were thrown back like scarlet torpedoes.
They crashed to the ground violently, the sound of their bones breaking was terrifying.
Everyone turned to their two tanks. In a matter of seconds, their armor and defenses were gone, their bodies completely shattered — both were out.
"Almost got him!" Veyle shouted, raising his staff up.
*Rumble!*
"Watch out!"
Leander yelled, and the Primitive Beast moved like lightning, charging forward with devastating force.
No one could react — he was insanely fast and overwhelming.
He was headed straight for Nayara's group's support — a short and skinny woman whose blessing created wind barriers. She threw both hands forward, forming a desperate shield.
No one noticed what had already started. Everyone's eyes were locked on the enemy — but someone had already moved before the beast even appeared.
*BANG!*
Her barrier shattered like glass hit by a sledgehammer.
"NO!"
The enemy's claw came down on her like a guillotine.
Only then did everyone see Darian.
With a quick move, he threw his body against hers, slamming into her side. She was small, so the impact knocked her far away, out of range of the killing blow.
Everyone's eyes widened as they saw Darian right in front of the claw, now just inches from his face. The craziest part — the Defensive Block Ring on his finger was already glowing.
A subtle space distortion formed around him. The claw lost all its power, stopping midair like it hit an invisible wall.
The beast twisted its face in rage and opened its mouth. Instantly, a destructive light began to shine inside.
That attack was like a Dragon's breath — pure, devastating force. This target wasn't called a Primitive Beast for nothing.
Darian smiled. His cloak lit up, absorbing the power from the ring without resistance.
A wave of destruction crashed onto him, but his enchanted cloak soaked it all up. The ring's power was being drained at an alarming rate, but the attack became nothing more than a warm breeze.
The enemy roared. Then, in a fit of rage, it planted one foot down and made a brutal move with the other.
*BANG!*
Darian was hit hard and thrown back like an arrow.
He hit the ground with a dry, nasty sound — but a white light shone through the dust, making everyone let out a breath of relief.
It had all happened way too fast. In one second, the beast took out both tanks. That left the nearby supports totally exposed.
Then the enemy attacked at ridiculous speed... but Darian... everyone was confused. There was no way he could've moved that fast, saved the girl, and still activated the ring in time to shield himself.
It was like...
Like he could sense the enemy's movements.
Darian hadn't taken much damage. Yeah, the beast had hit him — but it was already weakened after the two devastating strikes. Darian, on the other hand, could heal.
Nayara clenched her fists, focusing on the frontline. Beside her were Leander and the two mages. She stared at the primitive, humanoid beast, massive in size — and gave a cold smile.
"This maniac support..."
That enemy had insane physical strength and natural defenses. He tanked the artifact blasts and the tank duo's hits, then took them out like nothing could touch him.
Then there was his speed... and his unpredictable power...
Even though his law had been completely nullified, he still had his body and some kind of internal energy he could use. Nayara knew exactly why. Inside that Primitive Beast, there was a core that stored his power.
It was like the Spiritual Guardians — even if their law was shut down, they still had their ring's power to draw from. If he were at full strength, even three full teams — each with two rings — would have a hard time taking him down.
"ROAR!"
The Primitive Beast roared in fury, but couldn't move...
He'd tried to go all in and kill a few easy targets. Two attacks — both failed because of Darian. That created a perfect opening for the mages.
Right now, the lower half of his body was submerged in the mist, while the upper half was covered in sand.
Clearly, the sand wasn't affecting him — he was ignoring it completely. But the mist was different. It could enter through his skin or anywhere else. Once it got inside, things would go downhill fast.
A colorless energy was flowing from his body — and that strange aura made Veyle's mist slowly back away, unable to penetrate.
"Veyle's mist is the only thing that can break into his body," Nayara murmured from afar.
She turned around — and her eyes widened when she saw Matteo and the Tank woman getting back up. They were completely healed — not a single injury left in just a few seconds. Darian had gotten up right after and walked to them, silently healing them.
Nayara gave a satisfied nod, then gave the order: "Leander, Eric, Harper. The Tanks will create the opening!"
"Go!"
They responded firmly. The two tanks gave Darian a thankful nod before charging again, full of fury.
Darian, though, let out a heavy breath...
His heart was pounding out of control...
Sweat was pouring down his body nonstop...
But it wasn't nerves. Something was seriously wrong.
He turned to look at the altar behind him. The underground hall was massive — five hundred meters or more. They'd been thrown far, but the book in the center was still way off in the distance.

That feeling Darian was getting — it came from that direction.
'This sensation... it's like someone's watching me really closely, tracking my every move,' he murmured mentally, feeling deeply unsettled.
He couldn't see anything. Couldn't sense anything either. It felt like his imagination. But he was sure someone was there.
Definitely not someone he could handle — it felt like a tiger watching an ant, curious about its simplicity.
