Chapter 108 – The City and the Surprising Crystals
The night breeze swept gently, brushing through my loose black hair under the dim light of a low-hanging crescent moon. From up here, the world looked peaceful, as if all the disaster and destruction had just been a nightmare nearing its end.
I sat relaxed on the back of my small undead dragon, its wings flapping steadily. Though its body was now only about five meters long much smaller than when it first appeared in the dungeon its presence still radiated a terrifying yet majestic aura.
While enjoying the gloomy night view, I thought to myself why had I never checked this creature’s status all this time, even though it had followed me for so long?
I quickly opened my system and focused on the zombie dragon. The system’s eye immediately displayed data that made me frown.
[Appraisal Activated]
Name: -
Type: Zombie Dragon
Rank: 4
Main Abilities: Corrosive Breath, High Magic Resistance, Flight Capability
I tilted my head slightly. Rank 4...?That’s equivalent to me right now, but this dragon was clearly much stronger in the past. In the dungeon, it was twenty meters long. Now it’s only a third of that.
So it’s true... it has lost some of its strength. But what caused it? Was its massive body too damaged, and when I used a crystal to heal it, the result was a smaller form? Now I was curious.
I gently patted its neck.
"Thanks for staying with me."
The zombie dragon simply let out a low hiss, then began descending slowly. In the distance, the lights of a city came into view dim but vivid against the dark, ruined landscape.
I narrowed my eyes. "A city?" Then I remembered. "Ah, right. There should be a city near the Cave of the Forgotten dungeon, according to the lich’s map I memorized."
Tall buildings stood behind massive city walls. Guard towers glowed with enchanted torches, and the stone path leading to the main gate lay wide open, as if inviting all who approached.
"Land," I murmured.
We landed gently at the edge of a small forest near the city. I stroked the dragon’s head before storing it back into my spiritual storage. No need to attract more attention my appearance was already conspicuous enough.
My black dress still clung tightly to my body, and my jet-black hair made me look even more foreign in the eyes of most.
I walked calmly toward the city gate. Fortunately, it hadn’t been closed yet. The guards on duty looked sleepy but remained alert. As I approached, two of them a werewolf and a horned demon raised their hands to stop me.
"Hey. Identification, please," the demon said.
I opened my system storage discreetly and lazily pulled out a guild card from my quick-access slot, as if it came from within my chest.
[Guild Card – Sylvia – Rank F]
One of them raised an eyebrow.
"Rank F...? Alone, at night... you’re pretty brave."
I just shrugged. "I’m used to places far more dangerous than this."
They eventually let me pass without much questioning, though I caught whispers behind me.
"Pale skin... black hair... not one of our demons...""Looks human. But her aura... no. Feels strange..."
I ignored them. This city was definitely different from the one led by Velthya. It was much larger, more crowded, and especially dominated by creatures of darkness, unlike Velthya’s city which was mostly werewolves and lycans.
Vampires walked gracefully along the sidewalks, dressed in aristocratic cloaks. Small demons played in alley corners. Werewolves roamed freely, and even a few brightly dressed succubi laughed with their group.
Faces that would terrify ordinary humans... but to me, they were just another form of the world’s inhabitants. I felt more at ease among beings like these than among humans who thrived on politics and betrayal.
I followed my instincts toward the nearest Hunter Guild. The building was large, much grander than the one in Velthya’s city. Its architecture combined gothic and industrial elements, with tall black doors and metal-framed windows.
As I entered, the atmosphere immediately grew tense.
Many paused their activities to stare at me. Most were dark beings vampires, demons, werewolves, and even one or two dark elves clad in light armor. Their eyes followed every step I took.
I could hear faint murmurs.
"A human?"
"No, too strange... her aura... it’s not human, more like a vampire."
"No, her aura feels different from mine..."
"Is she a black mage?"
"No way... no human could’ve come this far alone."
I pretended not to hear.
I headed straight to the receptionist a female vampire with dark blue hair and striking red eyes. Her gaze was cold as she looked at me, but she remained professional.
"Can I help you with something?"
I didn’t answer. I simply pulled out a large pouch from my chest actually from my storage filled with dozens of blue crystals and eight purple ones from the Cave of the Forgotten. I still had more in reserve, but those were for myself.
Her eyes widened. "T-These...!"
She quickly opened the pouch and examined its contents. Her voice trembled slightly. "Blue and purple crystals... all of these? Where did you ?"
"Dungeon. Cave of the Forgotten," I replied flatly.
Her face froze instantly. The room went quieter. A few hunters even stood up from their seats.
"...You’re joking?" she asked softly.
I sighed. "Do I look like someone who jokes?"
She immediately asked for my guild card. When she saw it, her expression turned incredulous.
"Rank... F? This must be fake."
So this is how they treat high-tier crystal suppliers? I thought, slightly annoyed.
A bit of my dark aura leaked out. Not too much just enough to show my true status. The pressure of my undead energy swept over the receptionist’s desk, making the air suddenly heavy. The vampire’s eyes widened, and her body slightly trembled.
At that moment, another woman a dark elf with long dark green hair in formal attire hurried over to take the vampire’s place.
"We apologize for my colleague’s behavior," she said in a low, professional tone. "Please remain calm. We will begin evaluating your crystals right away."
I withdrew my aura.
"Good. Don’t waste my time."
The dark elf gave a faint, possibly nervous smile, then began counting the crystals one by one using a magical measuring device installed behind the desk.
Meanwhile, I leaned against the counter, scanning the guild’s interior. Many eyes were still on me some in awe, some in fear, and some... curious.
I simply lifted my chin slightly.
