ODETTE’S POV: freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"Pinky Promise I won’t tell anyone." Emalea stated with confidence.
"Okay. Well. How do I even say this out loud?" I whined with frustration.
"Just say it." Emalea said impatiently.
Okay just blurt it out.
"I lost my virginity to Ambrose last night!" I practically shouted the words as I forced them from my mouth.
Emalea’s face went wide with shock her jaw dropped low, and her eyebrows were practically touching her forehead.
She was completely speechless.
"You had sex with the Alpha King." Emalea eventually said "How did that even start?"
"I was near death, and he figured out a way to feed me while I was unconscious. And the next thing I know, we’re kissing then one thing led to another." I confessed.
I was nervous about telling her he called me his mate, but if I went this far already, might as well tell her everything.
"Then the wildest most impossible thing happened..." I hesitated. Saying it aloud to someone made it more real.
"What, what happened. Don’t leave me hanging here." Emalea spoke with a new desperation in her voice. Clearly invested.
I took a deep breath and exhaled "He called me his mate... Rather he growled. I think I heard his wolf come out."
I ran my fingers through my hair before throwing on to the bed and slamming the back of my head into the propped-up pillows, annoyed with my own stupidity.
"Woah. I need a minute to process this hold on." Emalea said standing up and pacing the room.
I fumbled my hands anxiously. What was she going to think? Would Emalea think I’m lying?
"This is so surreal. Are you sure you heard him say the mate word? Did you feel anything? Like a bond or a pull?" Emalea asked.
"Yeah, I did. It was like one of those slap bracelets, it just snapped together. It was the weirdest thing." I answered. "This is supposed to be impossible. I don’t understand any of this."
"Oh, also let me mention, he took my collar off and it made everything so much more intense, I felt power surging inside me, like something deep within was unlocking. I can still feel it. Strengthening, growing, spreading through me, like a wildfire." I added.
"This is a lot to taken in, shoot, Odette, what are you going to do? Will you accept the mate bond? Rejecting it would surely break the king’s wolf. Fated mates are rare among us now. Do you think it would hurt you too? To reject the mate bond?" Emalea was searching for answers more than actually asking questions I could see the gears working in her mind.
"I can do that? Reject a mate bond?" I was curious.
"Yes, but you wouldn’t really do that would you? Reject the mate bond?" She asked with a saddened voice.
"I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m a mess. I started the day with my virginity intact and I woke up today not a virgin, a killer, and with a fated mate. That’s a lot for anyone to take in." I exasperated.
"You’re not wrong. But what I would do to have a fated mate. I’m jealous." She gave a lighthearted chuckle.
"I’d give you one if I could instead. Could he be faking it? Lying about it?" I asked myself this question a hundred times.
"No, they can’t be, they are blessings from the goddess, that’s why it’s so rare. But the late alpha king and luna queen were fated mates. Alpha Micheal, who died in the Fullmoon massacre, was actually next in line for succession, but because he didn’t have a mate and the late king was blessed by the goddess and given favor, he inherited the thrown and role instead." Emalea confirmed what I already figured was the case.
A sigh falls from my mouth.
A knock on the door interrupted our conversation.
"Let’s table the talk." I said lowly.
Emalea walked over to the door.
"Oh, hi." Emalea said answering the door. "It’s Ariel and a little girl."
I liked that Emalea didn’t ask if I wanted them inside, not putting me on the spot like that.
"They can come in." I answered.
But to my surprise, the little girl that walked in was the very same little girl from last night. She looked cleaned up; her beautiful blue hair was in little space buns on either side of her head.
She looked like the most adorable little girl I’ve ever seen. Her cheeks were pink, and her eyes were bright, filled with innocence and wonder. If I hadn’t seen the destruction and death myself last night, I’d even say she looks like she’s been untainted by the world.
"You’re the little girl from last night! I’m so happy you’re okay!" I shouted moving out of the bed.
I hissed from my aching muscles.
"No, stay in bed, you were gravely injured last night during the attack, and you had a long, sleepless night." Emalea insisted.
She was right, and not wanting to upset her, or let the girl see me in pain, I obliged and stayed put.
The little girl came rushing to the bed.
"Evie, wait, don’t rush at her like that." Ariel said catching the girl by her shoulder, before she got too far.
Looking at both of them, they looked to be related. They had the same cheeks, and chin. Their noses were different as were their eyes.
But they definitely look related.
Ariel walked over to me with her little sister in tow and kneeled at my bedside.
"Thank you so much for saving my little sister. She’s my whole world and I don’t know what I’d do if I lost her. You risked your life to save her, and I am forever in your debt." Ariel was practically putting her forehead to the floor.
"Please get off the floor, you are not less than me, so there’s no need for such formalities." I said and then looked at the little girl "What’s your name?"
"I’m Genevive" The girl said excitedly, "And I am your biggest fan. Even before you saved me. You’re so amazing. I’ve read everything I can about you, even though there’s not a whole bunch about you, I’ve read it all. You’re like so powerful, I wanna be just like. Strong and brave and beautiful."
My heart fluttered, and my soul felt whole inside hearing this little girl say such heartwarming things to me.
"You are already beautiful and powerful. I can feel the power inside you. You’ll bloom one day, and you might even be stronger than me." I said leaning toward them.
I could see the light in her eyes shine bright from my words.
I felt light and like the weight of what happened last night was being lifted. Seeing her face, seeing her okay. It made everything that happened during the attack, all the death, she made it worth it.
It’s because of her, that I think I can live with all the death I created last night. I don’t feel guilty for killing those beasts. But I felt burdened by the fact I ended more lives.
I’m racking up quite the body count.
I remember I wanted to check out their library here, if I’m going to be stuck in this bed, I’d at least like something to read.
"Would you like to accompany to the library after lunch, Genevive?"
