Chapter 136: First Layer of the Forest of Disruption? [5]
Reph overlooked the camp, finding every to have already set up their tents and were now standing/sitting around the fire. Well, everyone except for two certain people that were standing behind him.
One had their arms folded and didn't look a bit guilty about being late and lost, while the other was rubbing the back of their head in guilt. They were Marionette and Lillian.
Reph sighed and turned around. He then stared at Lillian and said, "How'd you get lost..."
"Well..." Lillian avoided his piercing gaze and glanced around, "We uhh..." She struggled to find the right words until Millis popped out from nowhere and teasingly nudged the side of her arm with her elbow.
"Ya, two were flirting, right~?" Millis then quickly stepped to the side, avoiding a flustered smack from Lillian before continuing:
"Oh dear, Lillian~! Ya gotta at least resist the urge to touch—" She gestured towards Marionette, "—This beauty over here~!"
"S-shush!" Said Lillian, flusteredly. She then looked over to Marionette for her input and found her face turned slightly to the side and a little bit down.
Her bangs covered most of her face, but she was able to notice the edges of her lips curved up a bit and moving. She read her lips and made out, "She doesn't have to resist... with me..."
The blush on her face intensified a bit. She then jumped at the sudden hand placed on her shoulder. She turned her head back and found the Prince.
Reph stared at her and sighed again.
"We will have to go over our plans. The other plan we had in place in the scenario we were late isn't going to work.
"Our backup plan isn't going to work? Really?"
Reph nodded, "Due to you guys, unfortunately. But that isn't much of an issue."
"Ah... sorry again about that. Yeah sure we can—"
"—And I also have something else to discuss with you." Reph swiftly interrupted her before pulling her to the side.
Marionette quickly noticed this and made a step towards their direction before being held back by Millis.
"Yo! I'm gonna need ya thoughts on this. And how about we get that tent of yours up?" Millis pulled her along, filling the air with her almost endless chatter as she somehow distracted her.
While this was going on, off to the side, Reph and Lillian were crouched on the ground. The Prince held a jagged stick in his hand as he drew in the dirt... Well... tried to.
Lillian watched as Reph struggled to draw crude drawings into the ground.
SNAP...!
Reph stared at the broken stick, which hung on by a thread of fibre. He sighed and muttered, "They made it look much easier in the shows."
"I think its because the dirt is too hard here or something." She then smiled and thought, 'Or you could be bad at drawing.'
Reph hummed at her words, "Hmm..." before nodding, "... Maybe."
He chucked it to the side. The two then discussed some plans for tomorrow, which weren't overly interesting other than the fact they would need to go as soon as they awoke.
After that, Reph then got to what he wanted to ask her at the beginning.
"Did you badmouth me to Marionette, or something?" He raised an eyebrow. This caused Lillian to also raise one as well.
Why would he think that she did?
"Why do you ask? And no I didn't?"
"... She's been giving me this strange look, yesterday in homeroom. I'm not sure what happened between you two, even though it looks like it gotten a lot better, just try and make it so I don't lose my life on this trip."
"Are you trying to imply that Marionette might go after you or something?"
Reph went silent for a moment before opening his mouth:
"I'm not trying to imply anything. All I'm saying is that I'd rather there not be any other unexpected happenings on this trip, especially ones outside our control."
Lillian scratched the back of her head in deep thought, "Yeah, yeah. I'll try. I still don't think she would go after you anyway. It's not like she would gain anything from it."
She couldn't help but feel a strange sensation tickling the back of her mind when she said that. There definitely wasn't anything Marionette could gain from it... right?

Over the dancing flames of the campfire, and skewered on long, sharp sticks, were parts of a skinned wolf, specifically just small slabs of meat.
The people in charge of the skinning were those from families most familiar with hunting, and Gram, who tossed a handful of organs into a dirt pit before covering it up.
Marionette, who had been waiting for one of the meats to cook, clutched one of the sticks and pulled it out of the fire. She then turned and began to walk in Lillian's direction.
The white-haired girl she was walking towards was sitting on the ground, nose-deep into a thick grimoire with an annoyed and frustrated look. It was the grimoire she had gotten from inside the Trial.
For the past month, she had been trying to decipher the language written in it.
As much as she wanted to just cheat and have it translated by some kind of device, software, or professional working in the Academy—she still stuck to the reason that it would help her in the future if she could understand it.
She gave a loud sigh and pulled back her head away from the yellowed pages of the grimoire. Of course, she wasn't doing this raw, she had help online, looking through and researching.
Because of that, she had been able to read a few words, but that still wasn't enough.
"Man... I knew learning another language was hard, but damn..."
She then noticed Marionette sitting next to her.

After the raven-haired woman noticed that Lillian's attention was now on her, she held out the slab of meat to her and said, "Eat."
"Oh, uh sure."
She put away the book and held out her hand to the stick. She then saw that Marionette silently brought the stick away from her hand, preventing her from getting it.
Lillian raised an eyebrow at her and asked:
"What are you doing?"
Marionette stared at her slightly—her eyes briefly glancing down at Lillian's lips before back into her eyes.
She then said...
