Chapter 74: Nice To Meet You
Raelynn's heart raced as she stared at the man standing before her. It was him—the same man who had come to her rescue at the party. There was no mistaking him—tall and sharp-featured, he stood out immediately. Her mind raced, trying to make sense of running into him here.

The man was holding a small tray of pastries in one hand, his other hand now firmly gripping Mr. Mints' wrist. He repeated her words, but there was a sharpness to it as he echoed her words. "You heard the lady. Let go."
Mr. Mints' face contorted in irritation, his lips curling into a sneer. Raelynn tensed. She knew from experience that Mr. Mints despised being challenged, especially in public.
"Who the hell are you?" Mr. Mints barked. "Why don't you mind your own business?"
The man didn't flinch. His grip tightened just a bit, his face calm, but his eyes warned otherwise. "I'm just a man passing by," he began. "And I don't like seeing a jerk harassing a lady. Now let her go."
Raelynn's pulse quickened as she watched the exchange. The happy chatter in the bakery fizzled out, replaced by curious whispers.
Mr. Mints let out a bitter chuckle. "Oh, so you're one of those types. Think you can play hero? Let me tell you something—"
Before he could finish, he swung his free arm, aiming a punch at the man's face. Raelynn gasped, instinctively stepping back, but the man was quick. His reflexes were sharp, catching the swing mid-air and twisting Mr. Mints' arm effortlessly.
A sharp cry of pain escaped Mr. Mints' lips, his bravado crumbling instantly. "Let go, you bastard!" he snarled, squirming against the man's grip.
"Here's a tip," he said coldly. "Walk away now, or you'll regret it."
The murmurs around them grew louder as customers leaned in to watch the scene. Some held their phones up, recording the tense moment. Mr. Mints, clearly aware of the growing audience, stopped struggling. With a final shove, the man released him, causing Mr. Mints to stumble forward.
Rubbing his wrist and glaring at both Raelynn and her rescuer, Mr. Mints spat out a string of curses under his breath. "You'll regret this," he muttered venomously before leaving his tray and storming out of the bakery, his departure met with quiet applause from the others.
Raelynn let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding, her shoulders slumping in relief. Her turned to her, a crooked smile playing on his lips. "You seem to have a knack for finding trouble," he remarked, shaking his head lightly.
Raelynn blinked, unsure whether to laugh or sigh. "Yeah, tell me about it," she replied. "And you seem to have a knack for showing up at just the right time."
He let out a deep chuckle, the kind that somehow made her feel at ease. "Not that I mind helping you," he said, his eyes meeting hers, "but it's starting to feel like a pattern."
Raelynn smiled faintly, though her heart still raced from the encounter. "Thank you. Again."
"It's nothing, and hey, I'm surprised you even remember me,' he joked lightly. "I'm just glad you're okay." His eyes softened a little, a hint of concern creeping into his features. "Speaking of, are you okay? I mean, after what happened the other night at the party?"
Raelynn hesitated. The memory of that night was still fresh—a blur of panic and chaos. Seeing him now, after everything, made her feel surprisingly safe.
"I'm fine," she said finally, offering a small smile. "As you can see. And of course I can't forget my hero."
They stood there in a silence that was awkward yet somehow comforting. His gaze held hers, and Raelynn found herself noticing details she hadn't before—the faint scar along his jawline, the way his dark hair fell slightly over his forehead, the intensity in his eyes.
"So," he said, breaking the silence, "is that guy, from the other night? Is he your boyfriend? Or your husband?"
Raelynn froze. The question caught her off guard, and for a moment, she didn't know how to respond. Her mind raced. Elion wasn't her boyfriend or husband. But their relationship, if it could even be called that, was far too complicated to explain.
When she didn't answer immediately, the man raised his hands in a gesture of apology. "Sorry," he said quickly. "I didn't mean to pry. I was just… curious."
Raelynn laughed softly, shaking her head. "It's okay," she said. "Let's just say it's complicated."
"Fair enough," he answered. "Complicated seems to be a theme with you."
Raelynn rolled her eyes playfully. "You're not wrong."
They ended up laughing, the tension fading away. She glanced at the counter, remembering the tray of pastries she'd picked out. "I should probably pay for these," she said.
"Same here," he said, gesturing to his own tray. "Shall we?"
Their footsteps matched without effort as they headed to the counter. After paying, Raelynn turned to him, feeling a mix of gratitude and guilt. "I really appreciate what you did back there," she said. "I wish there was something I could do to thank you properly."
He waved her off with a smile. "Don't worry about it. I was happy to help."
"Well, how about lunch or dinner? My treat," she offered, surprising even herself with the suggestion.
He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "I won't say no to that," he said. "How about this weekend? At this time?"
Raelynn nodded. "This weekend works. There's a Mexican restaurant down the street I've been meaning to try. Does that sound good?"
"Perfect," he said with a big smile on his face.
As they stepped outside, he glanced at her. "Do you need a ride?"
Raelynn shook her head. "No, I'm good. But thank you."
He hesitated for a moment, then said, "By the way, my name's Axel."
Raelynn smiled. "Nice to meet you, Axel. I'm Raelynn."
Axel nodded, his gaze lingering on her for a moment before he turned and walked toward his car.
Raelynn opened her own car door, greeted by Hera's worried expression. "What took you so long?" Hera asked, her tone a mix of concern and irritation.
Raelynn laughed nervously. "Sorry. I just… ran into someone."
She glanced over her shoulder, hoping to catch another glimpse of Axel, but he was gone.
Hera frowned. "Who are you looking for?"
"Nothing," Raelynn said quickly, sliding into the seat. "It's nothing."
But as the driver started the car, she couldn't stop thinking about the odd feeling he gave her.
