Chapter 47 - 45: Powerless
She was unwilling to accept it, unwilling to die at his hands like this, and in such a disgraceful manner.
Would her death anniversary have to be on the same day as her mother’s?
She had thought that returning to the Spencer Family would uncover the truth about her mother’s suicide, but unexpectedly, she had placed her own life in jeopardy.
She lost, she couldn’t possibly beat someone with the Spencer surname. Her feet stopped struggling, and she lightly closed her eyes, letting the tears escape. She hurt, her whole body hurt, but nothing compared to the pain in her heart.
The tears flowing down her cheek dripped onto Liam Spencer’s hand. He felt the scorching heat of her tears, clearing his mind somewhat. Staring at the girl in front of him, seeing her lightly closed eyes, displaying a look of utter hopelessness, he swallowed hard, then rudely tossed her onto the ground.
Maya Spencer was stunned when she was thrown onto the ground, inadvertently coughing, and then she hurriedly grabbed the thin blanket that had fallen off the bed’s edge to cover herself.
Even though something that shouldn’t have happened did happen between them, she still felt shy, still felt ashamed. Moreover, his earlier sarcasm made her unwilling to show her distress in front of him.
Liam Spencer watched the girl use the blanket to cover herself, finding it ridiculous. He wondered, this time, what kind of saint she was pretending to be. When she invited him to dance, why was she so proactive? When her face was nestled in his arms, why wasn’t she embarrassed in the slightest?
At this moment, no matter what Maya Spencer did or said, Liam Spencer would not believe her. He simply thought she was acting. Furthermore, her previous behaviors had long revealed her restlessness. Wasn’t she shameless with both him and Henry Reid or Elijah Reed?
Liam Spencer firmly believed that the girl before him was the same with other men as with him, that all her restraint was merely an act, a performance to garner sympathy.
Previously, because he believed her act, he ended up like this, giving her the chance to climb into his bed.
Now, just a glance at her disgusted him.
So, he squatted down, extended his right hand, pinched her chin, and coldly ridiculed: "Maya Spencer, put away your pathetic expression. This trick has stopped working. Sorry, your beauty trap has failed. From now on, don’t appear before me. Get out! Immediately get out!" After the man’s words, he pushed her away.
Sitting on the ground, Maya Spencer listened to the expulsion order, tightly biting her lower lip. Her large eyes fiercely glared at him, holding back the tears from her eyes. She threw aside the thin blanket covering her body, grabbed the clothes off the floor, and quickly put them on in front of him. Dragging her exhausted body, she gritted her teeth and walked out of his room with her head held high.
With every step she took, it felt as if her lower body was being cut by knives, yet she continued gritting her teeth and resolutely walked out of his room.
As she left his room, her entire body went soft, leaning limply against the wall, then limped into her own room.
In the bathroom, looking at the scars covering her body, she clenched both her hands into fists. The thought of Liam Spencer’s mockery, of him saying someone like her didn’t deserve to climb into his bed, filled her with anger, but she was powerless, unable to do anything against him.
Under the shower, she washed herself over and over until dawn, determined to remove every trace of him.
He said not to appear before him. When had she ever wanted to see him again?
A whole year spent with the Spencer Family, never had she felt such defeat. She wanted to leave the Spencer Family, to get away from everyone there. But did she have a choice?
Coming out of the bathroom, Maya Spencer grabbed her phone and called for help, saying she couldn’t hold on.
But the other person said, "Maya, if you don’t care about the reason for your mother’s death, just come back!"
Just that simple sentence from the other side cornered her, forcing her to stand back up and keep trying, even though she was already physically and mentally exhausted.
She couldn’t let her mother die in vain, nor could she let herself be bullied for nothing. Since she had already lost everything, what else did she have to fear? Keeping this wretched life alive sneakily, what was the meaning of it anymore?
In truth, Maya Spencer very much wanted to escape, even wanted to end it all and walk away.
But the conviction in her heart and the love for her mother kept her from turning back. She sat curled up in a corner of the big bed, tightly gripping the necklace around her neck, silently weeping, not even daring to cry loudly.
Even though the room was well soundproofed, she was afraid of being heard.
At eight o’clock, a servant knocked on her door, reminding her that she had to go to school, and today there would be a formal physical test.
Inside the room, Maya Spencer listened to the knocking, weakly responded "I know!" and started getting dressed.
Looking at herself in the mirror,
she chose a long sports outfit to cover herself, wrapped a scarf around her neck, and wore sunglasses on her nose.
Since today was her mother’s death anniversary, although Maya Spencer’s attire was strange, nobody noticed anything amiss. Everyone just assumed she was feeling down, crying the whole night, and that’s why she dressed like this.
To avoid Liam Spencer, Maya Spencer skipped breakfast and went out.
At the Spencer Family, afraid that others would notice her discomfort, she walked with large strides, not daring to relax even slightly. Only until she boarded the bus did she find a spot in the farthest corner to secretly rest.
Meanwhile, in Liam Spencer’s bedroom, he had been sitting on the single sofa by the big bed for nearly four hours.
Looking at the mess on the bed, at the clothes that hadn’t been put on, he felt restless and frustrated.
Everything from last night replayed repeatedly in his mind,
he even remembered her crying,
"I am Maya." And her heart-wrenching cries, her desperate attempts to stop him.
Liam Spencer took a deep breath, raised his big hand, and rubbed his weary face. He couldn’t believe everything he saw was real.
Nor could he believe how he could...
Remembering her enthusiasm toward him, her following him like a sidekick recently, he was annoyed, really wanting to tear her apart. How could such a pure face do such undesirable things?
Didn’t she know he was her brother?
The more Liam Spencer thought about these things, the more he was upset, grabbing the clothes and sheets off the bed, throwing them into the laundry basket, then tossing the basket out the window into the big trash bin in the yard. Anything associated with Maya Spencer, he didn’t want to see.
The worst part was, they were living under the same roof, attending the same school, constantly facing each other and regretting that he didn’t strangle her this morning.
