Chapter 107: Void Sword Upgrade, the Fourth Wave of Beast Attack
"Got it, guru!" Dylan received the message and immediately ordered the cleanup of the battlefield.
He looked around at the wreckage. The fourth wave of Beast Wave would start in half an hour. All the dead players could be revived, and their combat power could return to their normal state. Maybe they could hold off the Beast Wave.
Dylan tried to comfort himself. The soldiers were busy sorting out the equipment from inside the city, the northern wall, and the dark forest passage.
The soldiers arrived at the northern wall and were immediately stunned.
The ground was black with a mass of stage 5, Dual Blade Reaper corpses, and scattered loot.
Weapons, enhancement stones, equipment inlay stones, and various other items.
The soldiers were momentarily at a loss.
"Sir, these are all stage 5 equipment. We can’t use them." one man finally spoke up. There were even some green, blue, and even purple epic-level equipment among them.
But only stage 5 warriors could use them.
The group felt like they had found a gold mine, but they couldn’t spend the money — it was frustrating.
The leading soldier quickly realized the situation and ordered, "Don’t bother with those stage 5 equipment. Go into the dark forest passage and collect the stage 3 equipment that we can actually use. Remember, this is just for temporary use — we have to turn them in after the defense is over."
"Understood." the soldiers replied and immediately entered the dark forest passage.
There were even more monster corpses here, piled up into small hills.
And from the deepest part of the passage, sounds of fighting and monster roars kept coming.
The Beast Wave attacks on the other three walls had ended, but from the direction of the dark forest, monsters kept pouring out — powerful stage 5, Dual Blade Reapers.
"Don’t just stand there — collect the stage 3 equipment that we can use." the leading officer immediately ordered.
"Got it!" The group finally realized and immediately started searching for stage 3 weapons.
The stage 3 weapons here were all from the initial Dark Spiders, and there were still a decent number. But most of the loot was actually stage 4 and stage 5 items.
The soldiers rummaged through the corpses, putting on the equipment they could use immediately, while other stage 3 equipment kept being pulled out.
Dylan didn’t have time to count all the loot, and ordered the stage 3 players among the soldiers to switch equipment right away.
The equipment that the Yett Family members and the Solaris City soldiers could use was also changed immediately.
This battle had been the most devastating for Solaris City — only over a thousand survivors remained, all at stage 2, level 10. For the upcoming fourth wave of Beast Wave, they were likely to be wiped out completely.
Dylan didn’t have time to think about it anymore. They had already held off three waves of Beast Attack; with such heavy losses, they had to hold no matter what.
"Sir, there’s a flying monster!" One of them spotted a dark shadow rapidly approaching from the sky and shouted in panic.
Dylan noticed it too and quickly stopped the soldiers from attacking, warning them, "Don’t move — it’s a player!"
It was a strong warrior who could fly with the Controlled Sword — just like Johnnie.
"Grandpa!" Cecilia recognized the person and gasped, standing on the wall and waving.
The man was Atlas. He had successfully passed the Sword Immortal test and changed his class to Sword Immortal.
And just like Johnnie, his Comprehension of the Way of the Sword had reached The State of Sword Mind — and even surpassed Johnnie at that time. He had smoothly mastered The Technique of Swordsmanship for Controlling Swords and learned how to fly with the Controlled Sword.
Atlas landed on the eastern wall, and the Yett Family members around him rushed over excitedly.
"Grandpa, how come you can fly?" Cecilia looked envious and said with a hint of complaint, "Did Johnnie hold back on you?"
Atlas gave her a sharp look and said seriously, "When your Way of the Sword level reaches The State of Sword Mind, you automatically unlock The Technique of Swordsmanship for Controlling Swords. You didn’t work hard, and now you’re regretting it?"
"The State of Sword Mind?" Cecilia made a face. Even if she trained for another ten years, she probably wouldn’t reach that level.
"Senior Atlas, it’s really you!" A voice called out in surprise — Liam came over, followed by Dylan and others.
Atlas looked at the person and realized, "You’re Liam? You’ve gotten so old."
The Yett Family had been reclusive, but they had long had contact with the higher-ups. Plus, the Yett Family had once been a major clan and had made great contributions to the Dragon Country.
"Senior, it’s been over fifty years since we last saw each other. Time doesn’t spare anyone, so I’m old, of course." Liam said with a bitter smile. Atlas was a martial arts disciple and now over 170 years old, while Liam was just an ordinary person — there was no comparison.
Atlas smiled and said, "My Yett Family is preparing to make a comeback. I’ll need to trouble you a little later."
"Really?" Liam’s eyes lit up, then he realized, "Is it because of this game? Did you Yett Family find out some secret information?"
The military had sensed that the game was special, but they weren’t sure if it was good or bad.
Atlas didn’t say much and just replied, "We’ll talk about it in person."
"Okay. Noah would be really happy to see you." Liam didn’t ask further and got back to organizing the next defense plan.
Roar, roar...
In the dark forest, the monsters roared and cried out. As the number of Dual Blade Reapers decreased and stopped increasing, new monsters appeared — stage 6, level 3, Flame Dragon Servants.
"Uh, a sub-dragon type monster!" Johnnie noticed the leader among the Flame Dragon Servants — a stage 6, level 10 epic boss, the Sub-Dragon Demon Beast.
His Dragon Patterned Sword had an advancement requirement: kill 10 sub-dragon quality monsters. The number of Flame Dragon Servant Beasts in this wave was huge, and there were definitely at least ten epic bosses.
Buzz!
The Intent of the Sword hummed. Johnnie directly summoned his Dragon Patterned Sword, which stretched across dozens of meters, and he charged at the leader of the Flame Dragon Servants.
Plop!
-1,433,020
A terrifying damage number flashed.
Critical hit!
Over 1.4 million damage. The Flame Dragon Servant let out a terrified roar.
It was a stage 6 epic boss, with 4.4 million health points, but it couldn’t withstand Johnnie’s few attacks.
It instinctively tried to retreat into the mass of the Beast Wave.
Johnnie didn’t give it a chance. His Dragon Patterned Sword flashed, and several attacks descended on it — it was instantly killed, with no chance to fight back.
[Killed stage 6, level 10 epic boss Flame Dragon Servant commander. Gained 16,000 experience points.]
[Your level has increased to stage 4, level 6. Four basic attributes +20, free attribute points +20.]
The prompt message flashed. Johnnie’s level had risen again, reaching stage 4, level 6.
Killing monsters across levels gave him a huge experience boost. If the Beast Wave continued, he might even reach stage 4, level 10 and trigger another advancement quest.
However, the advancement quest for The Mage of the Five Elements was still stuck. He hadn’t yet encountered an elemental gift insight or any gold-type monsters.
He would have to wait until the Beast Wave ended and then figure it out.
Johnnie stood at the entrance of the dark forest passage, continuing to mercilessly slaughter the incoming Dual Blade Reapers.
[Ding. Killed 100,000 stage 5 and above monsters. Void Sword has advanced to stage 5. Attributes improved.]
[Void Sword: Artifact weapon; stage 5 (can grow, already bonded); Physical damage +700, Magic damage +700, Four basic attributes +500, Life Steal +20%, Physical Critical Strike +15%, Magic Critical Strike +15%.]
[Soul Steal: Artifact effect; killing Undead monsters increases 1 point of The Intensity of the Soul.]
[Massacre of Demons: Artifact effect; slaying Demonic Creatures grants free attribute points; not limited by weapon; kill 100 Magic Soldiers +1 free attribute point, kill 10 Demonic Guards +1 free attribute point...]
[Killing Growth: Kill 1,000,000 stage 6 and above Demonic Creatures to advance to stage 6.]
At this moment, a new prompt appeared. The Void Sword had finally advanced to stage 5.
"Four basic attributes increased by 500 points!" Johnnie was shocked. The Void Sword’s stage 5 advancement was huge — it added 500 points to his basic attributes, and 700 points each to physical and magic damage.
His power had grown dramatically.
But the next advancement required killing 1,000,000 stage 6 and above monsters.
He looked at the Flame Dragon Servant army moving restlessly in the distance. These guys were at most 300,000 in number. It was unrealistic to upgrade the Void Sword in a short time.
"Time to upgrade the Dragon Patterned Sword!" Johnnie made up his mind. He activated The Technique of Swordsmanship for Controlling Swords. His Dragon Patterned Sword roared as it quickly finished off the remaining few Dual Blade Reapers and then moved toward the Flame Dragon Servant army, searching for the Flame Dragon Servant epic bosses.
...
[Ding, The fourth Beast Wave will start in five minutes]
At that moment, a prompt message sounded, and a countdown appeared.
Outside the city walls, the forest was filled with roaring monster noises, and an army of monsters had already appeared.
"General, sir! It’s a stage 4 Beast Wave — Blazing Tiger and Furious Fire Lion. No flying monsters detected." a soldier ran over and immediately said.
It was indeed a stage 4 Beast Wave!
Dylan’s face turned dark. He asked, "General, how are we going to defend against this?"
Liam furrowed his brows, his expression serious. He coldly said three words: "Sacrifice lives!"
It was the most brutal and clumsy method, but also the most effective.
He glanced toward the dark forest on the northern wall. There were no monsters there yet.
Three walls, 100,000 troops — they should be able to hold off the Beast Wave, right?
He comforted himself in his mind.
To kill a stage 4 Beast Wave, players’ current strength was completely impossible. They could only delay time until the Beast Wave ended.
Each Beast Wave attack lasted two hours. If they performed well, there would be no problem at all.
Liam continued, "Since it’s a death mission, Solaris City’s soldiers shouldn’t be involved. Split the 100,000 troops into three groups. Each group must hold for at least ten minutes."
Players at stage 2 and above would take 30 minutes to respawn after dying.
Splitting the army into three groups would allow them to last until the first group of players respawned, without any gaps.
Atlas also spoke up, "Liam, the Yett Family members will also be under your command."
"Thank you, Senior." Liam bowed respectfully, took a deep breath, and looked at Dylan, giving the order: "Attack first!"
He had already decided to use soldiers’ lives to block the Beast Wave attack. There was no need to just hold the line anymore. Extending the battlefield would better help them delay time.
"Yes!" Dylan respectfully saluted and immediately mobilized the troops, launching the attack.
