Chapter 34 on the train
Su Yuanyuan was leaning there with her eyes closed, pondering what to do. Would it work to directly contact the buyer? But she didn’t want to cooperate with those people either.
She couldn’t reveal her accent, luckily she knew Mandarin.
Swaying a bit, she fell asleep quickly. The speed of trains nowadays really isn’t commendable.
Even without opening her eyes, she smelled food and felt hungry. She pulled out some deep-fried dough sticks wrapped in greaseproof paper and cling film, as she didn’t have a kettle or a thermos, she took out a plain porcelain cup from her space. She needed to drink water.
As fate would have it, the attendant came just then to deliver hot water.
She held out her cup, and they gave her a cup of hot water. This was one upside to train travel.
She ate her dough sticks and drank hot water. Her meal was better than most others around her.
She didn’t care much, just ate her own food. After two dough sticks, she sipped her hot water slowly.
The announcements indicated the train would stop in ten minutes and stay there for half an hour.
Su Yuanyuan felt that someone nearby harbored malice toward her. So she thought it wise to get off the train and look for a new seat afterward.
She packed her cup, left her seat, and wandered to the train door.
Turning casually, she noticed a woman heading toward her. Was she one of the kidnappers?
"You’re unlucky to have run into me," Su Yuanyuan muttered quietly, thinking about how she could expose this trafficker.
Though her mind wasn’t very complex, she couldn’t think of a solution, and she didn’t want to risk herself.
Deciding to evade her for now, and deal with it later if she couldn’t avoid her.
She went to the restroom. The smell inside was unbearable, so she came out in less than a minute. She smiled at the woman standing outside the door and then headed toward another door.
Her plan was to avoid this woman. But while her ideas were great, reality was that the woman continued to follow her.
Was she treating her like some pushover?
Su Yuanyuan was small, and since many people were preparing to get off, she walked through two carriages and actually shook off the woman.
She didn’t stop and went directly towards the front of the train.
She saw a train police officer. "Brother, there’s someone following me."
Initially, she hesitated to cause trouble, but Su Yuanyuan was genuinely upset. She wasn’t heroic enough to catch a trafficker just to prevent other children from being kidnapped.
It was just that she had been troubled. Why was this woman always following her?
"Where is she?"
"I just shook her off, but she won’t give up and will definitely follow me.
Brother, if she says I’m her child later, you just say I’m your sister. Let’s see what she says?"
Su Yuanyuan had seen traffickers’ tricks on TV many times, so she reminded the young train officer.
"Okay, I’ll say that," Wang Xiaodong said with a smile.
Su Yuanyuan nodded. She didn’t realize how amusing her adult-like act was.
"Brother, you better hide somewhere. I bet she’ll be here soon."
"Sure, where are you planning to lure her?"
"How would I know? Also, my name is Su Yuanyuan, don’t be fooled by her. She doesn’t even know my name. Here she comes."
Su Yuanyuan and Wang Xiaodong passed each other, walking in opposite directions.
The trafficker hesitated upon seeing the train police, making Wang Xiaodong sure the little girl hadn’t lied.
They also passed each other, with Wang Xiaodong leaving directly.
Su Yuanyuan continued to walk leisurely forward. She knew the woman was following her.
After passing through several carriages, Su Yuanyuan stopped at a place with fewer people. It seemed like a sleeper carriage, and she stood there bored, looking down.
Finally, the woman caught up with the girl.
"Auntie, why are you following me?"
"I’m afraid you’ll get lost."
"Oh, thank you, but I don’t know you. Are you a kidnapper? Are you trying to steal and sell me?"
Su Yuanyuan looked at the woman in fear.
Wang Xiaodong, hiding in the sleeper carriage, almost laughed. This little girl was indeed funny.
"What nonsense are you saying? Aren’t you my daughter? Don’t be upset with me," the woman stepped forward and grabbed Su Yuanyuan’s arm tightly, causing it to hurt. She couldn’t break free.
"You’re lying. I don’t know you. Help! Someone, help! There’s a kidnapper."
The little girl’s voice was sharp, and within a minute, several compartment doors opened.
Wang Xiaodong also came out with them.
"Brother, she’s the kidnapper."
"Daya, don’t be mad at me. I’ll make you new clothes when we get back, so don’t be upset."
"Oh, I see, the child is just upset," people from two carriages retreated.
"You’re lying. My name isn’t Daya. I don’t know you at all."
"Stop it, we’re about to get off. Be good, and I’ll buy you something to eat afterward."
This trafficker was frustrated. Why was this girl so difficult? It was a mistake not to have drugged her, which would have avoided all this noise.
At this point, Su Yuanyuan began to cry loudly. Initially, she was pretending, but then she recalled her own rebirth in this era, feeling wronged, and she cried genuinely.
Seeing the little girl cry for real, Wang Xiaodong stepped forward and pressed down the woman’s arm.
"What are you doing? Let go of me."
"We’ll talk this out at the security office."
"I’m not going. Let go of me."
Wang Xiaodong paid no heed to her plea, and forcibly escorted her to the security office.
She had already released Su Yuanyuan.
Wang Xiaodong didn’t turn back. "Girl, follow."
She stopped crying, still sniffling, but followed closely behind them.
The trafficker wanted to flee, but she was no match for a recently discharged train officer, not knowing where she could even run to.
Reaching the security office, Wang Xiaodong found a rope to tie her up.
"Brother, you’re really good at tying knots. Can you teach me?"
Wang Xiaodong looked speechlessly at this big-hearted girl.
Just then, the door was pushed open by two older train officers.
"Xiao Wang, what’s going on?"
"Captain, she’s a trafficker."
"Nonsense, she’s my daughter, how could I be a trafficker?"
Su Yuanyuan gave the woman a disdainful look, "Dare you call me your daughter? I’m an orphan without parents. Do you really want to be my mother?"
"Daya, stop talking. I’ll definitely make new clothes for you and buy you something good to eat," the woman stubbornly insisted on her lie.
