Chapter 156: you did it
CRUNCH!!!
He bit down, the sound explosive in the silent room, his chewing deliberate, almost theatrical.
Tila’s eyes widened, her fury reigniting, and she unleashed a fresh wave of curses, her voice cracking from strain.
"Now you did it, you fucking bastard! I’ll tear you apart! You’ll beg for death!"
Kael set the chips aside, grabbing the water bottle, his movements still casual.
He took a long, slow sip, tilting his head back, the water glinting as it caught the light, his throat moving with each gulp.
Tila’s eyes flicked to the bottle, her yelling faltering, her lips parting slightly.
She was parched—her throat raw from hours of screaming—and Kael’s exaggerated display, like a soft drink ad, made her thirst unbearable, her tongue darting out instinctively.
"You want some water?" he asked, his voice calm, holding the bottle up, his hazel eyes glinting with intent.
Tila’s glare hardened, her sharp features tightening, but her eyes lingered on the bottle, betraying her need.
"No," she spat, her voice rough, defiance battling her body’s demand.
Kael tilted his head, his grin sly. "Your throat’s gonna give out. Your annoying voice will go, and you won’t be able to scream anymore. When Lila notices the silence, she’ll think something’s wrong. You really want to make your sister anxious?"
Tila’s eyes wavered, her glare faltering, though her voice stayed venomous. "What did you do to my sister? She’s innocent—don’t you dare touch her! If I find out you made her cry, I’ll hunt you down, kill your entire family in front of you, burn your world to ash!" Her threats grew personal, each one a knife aimed at his heart.
Kael’s expression didn’t change, his hazel eyes steady.
"Lila’s safe. She’s napping right now. As for my family, they’re long gone, so you’re out of luck there. If you want to threaten me, try my teddy bear, Bogo, at my city apartment. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him—might pay him a visit." His voice was light, almost mocking.
Tila’s lips curled into a sneer, her voice low and vicious.
"Then I’ll settle for Blue-y and Red-y," she said, referring to Freya and Rhea. "Maybe I’ll dice them up for your dinner, or skin them alive while you watch."
Kael’s anger flared, a hot spark in his chest, his hand twitching toward his stun baton.
He wanted to wipe the smugness off her face with a beautiful punch to her face, but he forced himself to stay calm, his expression blank.
"Yeah, you can try," he said, his voice cold. "You don’t stand a chance against them."
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a packet of cookies, "Oh, by the way, want a cookie?" he asked, holding up the packet, the chocolate chips visible through the plastic.
Tila’s eyes widened, her sharp features paling, her voice dropping to a whisper laced with horror. "W... Why do you have that?"
_____________________
Freya piloted the Zephyr X-9 through the city’s bustling streets, weaving past slower cars with a flick of the wrist, her blue eyes sharp behind her reinforced cloth mask.
She obeyed every traffic rule, her frost-patterned bodysuit shimmering as she kept the car’s speed just under the limit.
No need to draw heat—not with a mission looming, especially with all the trust Kael had on her, since she was the team leader?.
The car’s interior was silent, the air thick with tension. Rhea, in her orange-and-black bodysuit, slouched in the passenger seat, her amber eyes fixed out the window, her crimson hair tucked under her black mask.
Lila sat in the back, her loose gown pooling around her, her glasses reflecting the passing cars as she stared out her own window, her black curly hair framing her quiet face.
The silence was a powder keg.
One wrong word, one spark, and Freya and Rhea might turn on Lila, their uneasy truce with her threatening to explode.
They’d been tasked with keeping her close while completing the mission, but neither trusted her fully, and Lila’s presence felt like a lit fuse.
Freya’s grip tightened on the wheel, Rhea’s fingers twitched, and Lila’s stillness was almost too careful, as if she sensed the danger.
Finally, Lila broke the quiet, her voice soft but clear.
"So... how’s your stay at the Haven been?"
Freya and Rhea froze, their eyes flicking to each other, then back to the road.
Memories flooded in—their chaotic start, all yelling, fighting, and fire-versus-ice clashes, now softened by camaraderie and something deeper, tangled in Kael’s orbit.
The question hung, unanswered, as Lila waited, her glasses glinting expectantly.
"It’s been... good," Freya said at last, her voice clipped, her blue eyes staying on the road, her cape shifting slightly.
"Yeah, real good," Rhea added, her amber eyes still glued to the window, her tone flat but edged with a smirk.
Lila tilted her head, her voice tentative. "And... how’s Kael?"
Rhea’s lips twitched, her amber eyes glinting with mischief. "He’s... good~," she said, dragging out the word, her smirk widening.
"Oh, real good," Freya echoed, her blue eyes flashing with a teasing spark, her lips curving slightly.
Lila’s brow furrowed, her glasses slipping as she caught their odd, synchronized answers.
"Good" for everything?
Her suspicion spiked, her fingers tightening on her gown.
"I’m just worried about my sister," she said, her voice softer, almost pleading.
Freya’s expression softened, her voice calm but firm. "No need to worry, Lila. Tila’s in safe hands."
"Yeah," Rhea chimed in, her grin sly. "Kael’s got this. He knows how to handle his clients, trust me." She paused, her amber eyes glinting with a wicked spark.
"But..."
Lila leaned forward, her voice sharp. "But what?"
Rhea’s grin turned devilish, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Kael’s a sadist. Back in the day, he’d cuff me to the bed, keep me begging, teetering on the edge of... y’know, bliss, for hours. Guy’s got a twisted streak."
Freya snorted, her blue eyes glinting with amusement as she jumped in.
"Sadist? Nah, he’s a pervy sadist. Picture this: me, blindfolded, trying to cook lunch, and Kael’s whispering all sorts of naughty nonsense as he stripped me naked, pushing me, doing all sorts of perverted stuff to all the tingly spots, till I’m a quivering mess. Had me burning more than the food, if you get what I mean."
Rhea cackled, leaning back, her orange suit flaring briefly.
"Oh, and don’t get me started on his lecherous side. He even haunts my dreams—literally. This one time when I was on bed with injuries, thanks to you, he left me waking up in a sweat, sheets soaked. I am pretty sure he did something to me that day, when I was asleep, maybe."
Freya’s smile turned sly, her voice low and teasing. "Point is, if Kael gets his hands on someone, he doesn’t stop till they’re his—mind, body, soul. Tila’s in for a ride."
"Yeah, Tila’s screwed," Rhea said, her amber eyes sparkling with glee. "Don’t be shocked if by the time we return to Haven and she’s on all fours, moaning for more, calling him ’master’".
Freya chuckled, her blue eyes glinting. "Or maybe Kael’s feeling extra creative today. Could be adding a pinch of pain to the rehab, like he did with you, Freya. Remember that day when he broke your nose?"
"Pfft, like yesterday," Freya shot back, her voice dripping with mock drama, her cape fluttering as she turned a corner.
Lila’s eyes widened, horror creeping across her face, her glasses fogging slightly.
Their words painted Kael as a sexual predator, a monster preying on women to sate his twisted desires.
Her stomach churned at the thought of him touching Tila, her sister’s fierce spirit broken under his hands. as she took it helplessly.
Oh No! This was a mistake.
What have I done?
For the first time, anger flared toward Kael, hot and sharp, her skin crawling with dread.
