Chapter 989: 0989 Disappeared! (2nd Update)

"Are you lecturing me?" The little girl’s voice suddenly rose, Ye Qiu’s earlier actions made her somewhat resistant, her small face showing a hint of anger.

Looking at the little girl’s puffed cheeks and her pretend grown-up demeanor, Ye Qiu couldn’t help but laugh.

He stopped teasing the little girl and instead said, "By the way, how did you end up here? This place is quite dangerous. Where are your parents?"

The little girl lifted her head, looking at Ye Qiu in a besieged situation, and said dismissively, "This is my playground, what’s so dangerous about it? If there’s any danger, it’s dangerous for you."

Oh wow!

Ye Qiu was momentarily stunned, getting looked down on by a little one no older than Yinyin, speaking like a little old soul without a trace of childishness, and what annoyed him the most was her nonchalant attitude.

Does she not know what kind of place this is?

Ye Qiu felt a bit embarrassed; this little kid just doesn’t know the fear. He chuckled lightly, "If it weren’t for me, you would have been eaten by that ancient beast. Do you understand?"

Upon hearing this, the little girl looked at Ye Qiu with an incredibly strange gaze, making Ye Qiu wonder if there was something on his face, or why was she looking at him like that.

After a few seconds, the little girl’s eyebrows raised, and she snorted, "That’s just a fish I raise, even if you gave it a hundred liters of courage it wouldn’t dare eat me."

Whoa... such audacity!

What else could Ye Qiu say, continue to argue with a little girl?

"Alright, alright, that ancient beast is yours." Ye Qiu thought it was childish for an adult like him to debate such things with a little girl—an ancient beast about to transform from a fish into a dragon raised by a little girl—no one would believe it if he told them.

Ye Qiu chuckled wryly, rubbing his chin, thinking that these few days in the Barbaric Wilderness Forest had left him a bit neurotic.

Dropping the topic, Ye Qiu planned to take the little girl away.

But the little girl vigorously shook her head, refusing to leave with Ye Qiu.

There was no choice, Ye Qiu could only follow the little one. Not long after, the little one told Ye Qiu that she was hungry.

Ye Qiu looked around but didn’t see any trace of a big white rabbit, and he didn’t want to provoke any other ancient beasts, so he returned dejectedly.

Seeing the little girl run back to play on that frozen lake, Ye Qiu almost had his heart in his throat, he quickly rushed over and once again brought the little girl tens of meters away.

"Are you crazy, little one? There’s that ancient beast in the ice lake. Fortunately, I showed up early, or else you would’ve already been eaten by it." Ye Qiu scolded.

"I’m hungry." The little girl tugged at Ye Qiu’s sleeve, saying nothing else but just repeating that she was hungry.

Could it be that this little one was trying to find food on the lake’s surface?

With a turn of thought, Ye Qiu comforted, "I have an idea. I’ll treat you to grilled fish later."

After settling the little girl and instructing her not to approach the ice lake, Ye Qiu slowly approached it alone.

A sweep of his spiritual power revealed that the dragon-like creature wasn’t present.

Could the little one be safe because the ancient beast wasn’t in the ice lake?

Confirming that the ancient beast wasn’t in the ice lake, Ye Qiu boldly walked to the edge of the lake.

He clenched his fist and punched a hole in the ice, trying to see if he could catch a couple of fish.

Soon, some fish surfaced, however, these fish looked quite ferocious with long and sharp teeth, clearly not the friendly type.

But Ye Qiu, being a mythic realm Martial Artist, killed two such fish with ease.

Soon, carrying two monstrous fish each weighing at least twenty pounds, Ye Qiu brought them ashore. To prevent the ancient beast from reappearing, he ran several miles away with the little girl.

He collected some wood and leaves, and Ye Qiu started a fire to grill the fish.

Stringing the big fish on the Kusanagi Sword, sitting on the ground, grilling and humming a tune, Ye Qiu nearly felt like he was back in the days on the mountain, living with the old man.

The little girl was staring at the big fish on the Kusanagi Sword, the skin and meat sizzling and emitting a fragrant aroma.

"Can we eat it now?" The little girl smacked her lips, feeling like her mouth was about to water.

"Wait a bit, it’s not done yet. Grilled fish, you know, is best when it’s seventy percent cooked, leaving thirty percent fresh. If it’s overcooked, it’ll be entirely charred and not tasty, the flavor becomes bitter, and the oil is gone. But if it’s undercooked, the fish oil isn’t fully stimulated, and it’ll taste soft and lack chewiness." Ye Qiu spoke with authority about cooking, back on the mountain, he often caught fish from the lake, making even the little nuns nearly break their vows to taste his cooking.

The little girl, resting her chin on her hands, listened to Ye Qiu talk about his theory on food, feeling that the grilled fish in front of her would be delicious once cooked.

The little girl had quite an appetite. The two twenty-pound grilled fish were nearly untouched by Ye Qiu, devoured entirely by the little girl, leaving Ye Qiu speechless.

Do kids eat so much these days?

This little one truly is a big eater.

After finishing, the little girl yawned, looking satisfied with a full belly, seemingly ready to sleep. Ye Qiu took off his coat, laid it on the ground, and let the little one lie down and sleep.

After seeing that the little girl was sound asleep, Ye Qiu extinguished the fire and began meditating cross-legged.

The next day.

When the morning sun shone on his body, Ye Qiu awoke with a start.

He actually fell asleep...

How long had it been since he last slept so soundly? Yet this time, he entered deep sleep with no warning.

"Thankfully, nothing happened. This is the Barbaric Wilderness Forest, after all. One could easily fall into the mouth of an ancient beast if not careful." Ye Qiu calmed his mind, feeling relieved about his good fortune, when suddenly his expression changed.

Where’s the little girl?

Ye Qiu shot up like a spring, scanning his surroundings.

No one was there, and his spiritual power quickly probed the area but found no one.

The little girl had vanished.

Ye Qiu looked around, calling out a few times, but got nothing back except echoes.

Was she taken by an ancient beast?

Ye Qiu carefully searched the ground for traces but found no suspicious marks or scents.

Awakening Jin Yu, who had also been sleeping deeply, Ye Qiu frowned. It was strange that Jin Yu too had fallen asleep.

After searching for two hours, he ended up back at the location of the ice lake but still found no trace of the little girl.

With no other choice, Ye Qiu had to give up.

"Oh well, maybe it was just a dream. In the depths of the Barbaric Wilderness Forest, how could a little girl suddenly appear?" Ye Qiu sighed, then continued to search for herbs with Jin Yu in tow.

Just as Ye Qiu walked dozens of meters away, back at his original spot, a little girl appeared out of nowhere. She had been there all along, but Ye Qiu couldn’t see her or sense her presence, not even with his spiritual power.

The little girl’s big eyes blinked, rolled once, and she happily skipped off after Ye Qiu.
