Chapter 75: Caught

Chapter 75: Caught

But he didn’t have to.

Neither he nor Severin moved away from their spot. It would have been useless if they did. They had no hope to outrun or outspeed a Refined.

They waited for their other team member to act.

When Severin told Ethan that he needed him to go back to the basics, he meant for him to go back to the very beginning and to understand what gravity could do. It wasn’t just all about brute force or making things heavier or crushing things.

There was also the soft power of making things lighter through manipulating the gravity around such things.

Exactly what he did to the gravitational force around Zigi.

As the man shot forward, his body became so light, so fast, that he didn’t even have the time to adjust as he shot upward instead of forward.

"Wha... ahhughhh!"

He went straight up and slammed into the ceiling headfirst, making a head-shaped dent in it.

And then he began to float around, his limbs waving, but not for long. He maneuvered himself around like a swimmer, and then he kicked against the ceiling, diving right back at them.

"Stay down," Ethan growled, and his right hand came down sharply.

The force around Zigi changed again. His body grew heavier, and he came down like a sinking ship. The ground shook as he was slammed down, but this time he was ready. He used his legs to absorb the shock.

The veins in his head throbbed. He had never been messed with by those weaker than him before. It was humiliating. It was an attention he did not want or like. "I’m going to kill you."

There was no more amusement in his voice. He wanted to kill them now just for the pure purpose of satisfying the hatred he felt, especially with that blue-eyed boy.

Severin shook his head. "We did what we wanted. We bought time and sealed your ability away for a while. I suggest you start running because you’ve pissed off some strong people."

Zigi remembered where he was then. He was inside a trap that he had walked into just because he could. The Head Instructor was inside the training center as well.

Zigi’s back was bent against the gravity force, but he straightened with slight difficulty. His eyes were two burning holes of hate and anger. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

He didn’t say anything more as he gathered all his remaining strength and shot forward. This time, he needed to take away Severin’s eyes. He hated the condescending way that he was getting stared at.

"How foolish," Severin said. "Do you think I would risk my survival to still be here if it’s not within my control?"

Zigi didn’t reach Severin.

Something black, with a tingling sensation, shot into the room so fast that what everyone saw was a flickering shadow.

That was all they saw.

But not all they felt.

They felt blistering heat and an electrifying sensation that raised all the hairs on their bodies and made their muscles stiffen and their chests tight.

Bam! Crack!

Zigi was sent back with such force that he made a dent the shape of his back into the wall, cracking it before he bounced to the ground.

He groaned and crawled on his hands and feet forward when he felt the shadows fall over him.

Darius Faulkner stood there with his arms crossed, his one eye burning with black light and satisfaction, but his mouth was turned down in disappointment. "I thought you would be stronger than this, but you are too weak for the amount of trouble you cause me.

How will I beat you without killing you now?"

Zigi flinched. He loved attention, but there are some attentions that even he did not want. Attentions that felt like blades scraping the skin.

Severin took a step forward with his hand on Julius’s shoulder. "Head Instructor, my House member won’t be able to hold on any longer. His ability messes with the mind."

Julius was trembling, his nose dripping with blood that mixed with the heavy sweat on his face. But his jaws were clenched tight, and his eyes burned with determination.

Darius turned around. He didn’t ask how Severin knew what he knew or how they were able to hold on against someone a stage above themselves.

Instead, his hand blurred forward, and a bolt of black lightning shot out and slammed into Zigi, leaving him convulsing on the ground. A second bolt, one stronger than the one before, hit him again, and he passed out.

Julius let out a loud gasp, and his legs collapsed as he too fell unconscious, but Severin caught him.

Someone else walked into the room, and with a gesture, chains made of Etherion grew out of the ground and wrapped around Zigi.

"So this is the spineless coward that’s been kidnapping the students under my watch," Vaelith Shouyn said.

Darius nodded sharply. "A disappointment, I must say. But he must not be working alone. There must be someone else that was able to mess with the training center’s formation."

Just as he said that, he looked at Severin as if expecting him to have a say on who it might be.

Severin knew that his position had changed now that the culprit had been caught. They still suspected him, but they would believe he wasn’t directly working against the Academy.

He tensed because Darius Faulkner might make the choice of finally killing him.

Severin turned away from him and gently laid Julius down. "Derrick, we have to get him to the healer. Come and carry him."

Darius snorted, but there was no amusement on his face. "Interesting."

Vaelith didn’t seem to care, because she quickly dragged Zigi away, happy to finally have a solid lead on the shit happening in the Academy.

Derrick carried Julius, and Serena followed them out.

Remaining were Ethan, Severin, and the Head Instructor.

Severin straightened and turned to Ethan. He nodded firmly without any subtlety.

Ethan hesitated before he nodded back, took his hammer, and then went out as well.

Head Instructor Darius stared at Severin in silence. "So. If you didn’t tell him to go, do you think Ethan Aldrich would attack me to protect you?"
