Chapter 249: The Prophecy

Chapter 249: The Prophecy

Kraven took a step back, overcome by the weight of her words. "What prophecy? No one has ever been written for a thousand winters."

"It was," The witch gritted her teeth, no one knew this because the Five Courts tried to erase it. "Six hundred winters ago, on the Hallowmoon."

Kraven blinked. "The day I was born."

"Yes, that prophecy shook the realm or at least the fucking Courts who knew the truth. They didn’t dare to mention it because they knew what it meant. It said a light and darkness will be born. The light born of the kiss of Lifara and the darkness reborn from Daudi’s Hand, and these two gifts of the gods will take on the evil of the world."

"You’re wrong," Kraven growled.

"Am I?" she countered.

However, seeing not one spark of lies in her eyes, he knew it was true.

This explained why his bloodline was suddenly erased—not because of his father’s madness but because of the prophecy that he would one day take on the evils of the world. It meant the destruction of the Five Courts.

"You’re the lock and she’s the key. She’s the light to your darkness, and you’re the darkness to her light. The perfect balance," The witch said with a smile on her lips.

"All my life, I thought I was executed because of my mad gene, but a prophecy? The real reason my entire bloodline was erased." His teeth clenched as the urge to carve out hearts overwhelmed him. Soon.

She huffed. "The Court wanted the world to believe that your family was the curse of this land. They didn’t have the balls to handle the truth."

Kraven chuckled, but it was a humourless one. "Prophecy or not, I don’t need a reason to eliminate the Court."

"Neither do I," The Witch declared. "This fight is mine too, and long have I waited for the world to be rid of those evil."

A Few Days Later

The wind filtered through the windows, the curtains dancing. The songbirds chirped melodiously as they perched and flocked.

Isadora’s hand flinched. Then her lashes moved, her lips coming apart silently. Her chest rose and fell.

It took a few minutes before she slowly flicked her eyes open. She blinked multiple times as her body and mind tried to make out her environment.

She moved, pressing her hands to her sides, and forced her body to sit.

Isadora narrowed her eyes, noting the floral gown she wore. She tipped her head, observing the sleeves. Whoever tailored this clothing did it to the last detail and with perfection.

But who dressed her up? And more importantly, what was she doing in a room? What happened to Aric and the Serpents? Where is Kraven? Logi?

So many questions stormed her head all at once, until a migraine pierced through her head.

"One at a time, my dear."

Isadora gasped, lifting her gaze to a woman stepping closer. She closed her eyes briefly just to make sure she wasn’t in some reverie. But the beautiful woman remained standing with a warm smile on her black painted lips.

"Who are you? And what am I doing here? Where’s Kraven?" Isadora asked all the questions quickly, hoping she would get all the answers to them at once.

The woman giggled softly, walking closer to the bed. Isadora had no idea who she was, and she should have been tense when a stranger came closer, but her aura felt calm, and it didn’t feel aggressive. It was warm and drew her in for comfort.

The woman sat on the bed, her smile not ceasing. "I’m sure you’ve got a lot of questions. But don’t worry, I’ll answer what I can."

"Where’s Kraven?"

"You’ll see him soon. He brought you to me because after you saved his life, you were half dead for moons, barely alive. It was a slim possibility you’d come back to life. But thank the gods."

Isadora narrowed her eyes, but then they widened when she recalled what happened at the Serpent’s Tower. "He was hurting, and I had to—" She exhaled sharply. "Logi warned me not to get close, he told me it was too late."

"But you never gave up, did you? You ran to him, knowing you would die trying."

A lump formed in Isadora’s throat, but she forced herself to speak. "It doesn’t matter what happens to me."

"And because of that selfless sacrifice, the power that was dormant within you clawed its way out."

"What power?" Isadora asked. For some odd reason, it felt like this woman would give her all the answers, and she did.

"You’re not just a mannfae, Isa."

At her words, Isadora’s eyes instantly snapped to her ears. They were just like hers!

"Y-Your ears, they—"

"Yes. I’m just like you, Isa. But you? You’re so much more, because at birth you were kissed by the goddess of light and life. You not only gained the powers to heal but also her light. With that same light, you saved Kraven’s life."

Isadora’s chest heaved, trying to take in everything. It explained a lot, why each time she felt the sun, there was a newfound energy. It made sense now.

"But I can’t weave anyone, Aric, he—" freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Shhh," she hushed her. "Do not think of such things right now." She cupped her cheeks. "Rest, recover, your body needs it."

The Witch rose to her feet and walked to the door. "I will bring you some food, eat, and rest."

"You still haven’t told me who you are," Isadora said with curiosity in her tone.

The Witch giggled and threw a look over her shoulder. "Why spoil the surprise?"

Isadora was fast asleep, she had no idea what was in that food because the moment she consumed it her body grew tired and the sleep was deeply needed.

Unlike the slumber for the past moons, this particular one felt great. Her body knew she was no longer fighting for her soul in that dark place again.

Yet it didn’t feel like that time after she healed the Sigil Beast; this was different because there was comfort in the dark, and her hand was warm all through.

She realized she wasn’t alone. Even now.

Feeling a large hand against hers, she was forced to open her eyes and found beautiful silver eyes staring back at her.
