Chapter 246 -246: Saintess of the Church of Light VS Ambitious Maid (Part 12)
“Her Holiness, no anomalies have been detected,” Carlos said to Gu Shengyin.
Gu Shengyin’s delicate brows furrowed upon hearing this.
This wasn’t right.
At the moment, she was investigating the outskirts of Icefield City with Carlos and a small team of Knights of Light.
Because the matter was quite secretive, Gu Shengyin hadn’t brought many people with her.
Yet, the investigation had turned up nothing abnormal; not a trace of the Demon Clan was to be found around the entire periphery of Icefield City.
Previously, Gu Shengyin had cast the Great Purification Spell, which had cleansed all traces of the Demon Clan’s presence. Now, the situation implied that no demons had come near Icefield City since that time.
Gu Shengyin would not naively believe that the demons harassing the Deep Blue Empire consisted only of those she had previously eradicated.
They definitely had some method of concealing their tracks.
Perhaps, they were merely biding their time to avoid attracting the attention of The Holy See.
This investigation ended inconclusively.
The group returned to Icefield City.
“Carlos…” Gu Shengyin spoke to Carlos.
Two days later, as the Demon Clan had been eliminated from the area, the grand procession of the Church of Light departed from Icefield City, heading to another city plagued by demons—Frost City.
However, contrary to everyone’s expectations, Icefield City was attacked by the Demon Clan again on the third day after the personnel of the Church of Light had left.
The Dark Power once again enveloped the city.
“Follow them.” In the darkness, two pairs of eyes coldly watched the dark-haired members of the Demon Clan.
These two people were none other than Gu Shengyin and Carlos.
The departure of the Church of Light from Icefield City was merely a ruse. Gu Shengyin had anticipated that the Demon Clan would not cease their disturbances and had thus pretended to leave, while secretly remaining behind with Carlos to await the demons’ arrival.
Gu Shengyin watched as the demons entered an abandoned house in the northeastern corner of Icefield City.
The demons vigilantly scanned their surroundings, and several of them began to recite a complex Curse Incantation.
Gradually, with the sound of their voices, a dark-red glow appeared in the space between them, steadily forming a Light Gate the size of an adult person.
Without hesitation, the demons stepped into the Light Gate, disappearing within the house.
Gu Shengyin exchanged a glance with Carlos—clearly, this was a special kind of Teleportation Array.
As the dark-red Light Gate was about to vanish, Gu Shengyin unhesitatingly stepped in.
Carlos watched her lithe figure disappear and followed her through the gate.
“Ding! Host has triggered a random task: Thwart the conspiracy of the Demon Clan and prevent the resurrection of the Dark Lord!” the System’s voice took Gu Shengyin by surprise.
“A random task, is there such a setting?”
The System seriously explained, “Under normal circumstances, random tasks do not appear. Rest assured, Host, although the task seems difficult, after analyzing the data, the System has determined that there is a one hundred percent chance of completing the task. Task difficulty, low.”
Gu Shengyin: …If it weren’t for the System’s reliability, she would be tempted to think that it was deceiving her.
To prevent the resurrection of the Dark Lord. Such a task sounded grand, difficult, and dangerous, yet it was deemed of low difficulty with a one hundred percent completion rate?
Could it be that the Dark Lord was already dead beyond resurrection, with no chance of coming back to life?
While making these quips to herself, Gu Shengyin discovered that she had been transported to a strange place.
