Chapter 46: The Beast King

Chapter 46: The Beast King

ODETTE’S POV:

I never knew a kiss could feel like this. Could make someone unravel. Everything in my body was aching for him.

I could feel my soul craving him.

It was intoxicating.

I needed to pull away, stop this.

But I couldn’t. I’m stuck; a willing victim trapped in his embrace.

I should hate him, be repulsed by this. But I’m not, despite all the screaming red flags. This moment right now, felt more like home than anything I’ve ever felt.

My body was heating up. It was getting so hot. I felt like I was seconds away from catching fire.

"Excuse me Alpha King Ambrose, but we are making our descend now." The stewardess gestured toward the seats.

Ambrose’s face darkened and a low warning growl left his mouth.

I pulled away, and placed my hands on his chest, hoping to distract him from the anger I could feel rising in him.

I took some of that anger, helping his anger settle.

"You just fed from me, didn’t you?" He glared at me, but not with a look of anger, but something else, something unreadable.

Unreadable, but not unnerving.

"It calmed you down though, didn’t it?" I shot back, I didn’t feel guilty at all. I’m sure the stewardess is grateful.

"That’s not what I asked." He growled.

"But it still gave you the answer. You just didn’t like the way I said it." Defiance now acting as steel in my bones.

He growled low and shot a sharp turn toward the stewardess who flinched under his narrowed gaze.

"Would you stop scaring her. Gosh, just sit in your seat, don’t make her job difficult." I rolled my eyes sitting back in my seat buckling up.

The effects of the alcohol and adrenaline still hitting me. My head was spinning. I ached between my legs. And I hungered for a man who wants me dead.

I need some air.

The descend was smooth, pilot was clearly experienced. Looking out it was a baren land of snow and ice. It was a fiercely white landscape, with air so cold frost was settling on the windows.

I’ve never seen snow; this will be my first time. I didn’t want to let on how excited of a child I felt right now, but I really was excited to touch snow.

I wonder how cold snow feels.

"You’ll need to change into warmer clothes before we get off the plane." He said to me.

Really though, I could use a slap of crisp cold air right about tnow. The space between my thighs was undeniably hot and wet from the kiss I shared with Ambrose earlier.

"I’ll be fine, I’m a vampire remember?" I gave him a devil-may-care grin.

"It’s -2º F out there, that’s pushing it even for a vampire. You aren’t even like the other coldblooded monsters."

His words struck a nerve in me. ’other coldblooded monsters’ like there’s a difference... A monster is a monster, and whether mine was hot or cold, I was still a monster, just like them. Just like him.

"I can handle it." I snapped back. His words made me feel petty, and I didn’t really feel like acting nice anymore.

"Can you just do as you told?" He snapped back.

"No, I can’t. Make me!" I yelled back.

The stewardess left, leaving just the two of us to hash this out.

"If I make you, you’ll get mad at me, can you just go put on a fucking jacket at least?"

"No, I can’t." I snapped again.

I guess something in him broke because the angry Alpha was back "You will not disrespect me like this in front of the pack here, I will lock you up in a cold cell. You will not give my wolves a reason to doubt my strength or my rule. Now put on the fucking jacket or Odette, so help me, I’ll break your fingers."

I shouldn’t be surprised by his ruthless brutal scare tactics. He’s still just a beast inside. And this... This was just another stark reminder that I’m nothing but a trapped bird in a golden cage.

Even the dignity I have now is a gift given by his majesty the ruthless Alpha King. More like the Beast King.

You know what? I think that’ll be my new secret nickname. The Beast King.

I don’t respond with words, but my glare was sharp like a dagger and filled with rage. I bit back my retort and grabbed my bag, pulling out one of the large red coats he picked for me when we went shopping.

"That’s my girl." He said pulling me in tighter.

Now acting like he hadn’t wanted to snap my neck 3 seconds ago.

I shrug off his touch, not wanting him around me right now. He was always so hot and cold; I didn’t know which end of the thermometer would burn me next.

He ignored my rejection pulling me in close. We were the last ones off the plane.

He wasn’t kidding the wind chill that hit me was much lower than -2ºF. This was like -15º wind chill.

We were surrounded on either side, the warriors Ambrose brought wore gold, red and black. But the warriors here wore black, silver, and a pale blue. I’m guessing to better blend in with their land.

They all looked fierce, like they weren’t just born in the cold, but they were built and bred for it. They looked so in sync with their land, I wouldn’t doubt it if someone told me that their very bones were made of the same ice that surrounds us.

They looked like winter in human skin. Cold, brutal, and ruthless. Hard to believe these guys needed any kind of help. They looked more like people we’d call to help us.

These people were yoked.

Built of solid muscle, faces stern and unmoving, hair the color of coal or glacier ice and skin as pale as the snow, if it wasn’t for the wet dog smell, these guys could pass as vampires with their cold features and black as night hair.

"Welcome Alpha King Ambrose and thank you for gracing our pack with your personal appearance. I did what I could with preparing for your arrival, but with it being such short notice, a residence in the pack house is all I can offer you. As you know we’ve been dealing with Rogues attacking us in an organized manner." The man started.

Ambrose interrupted him. "No special arrangements are needing to be made; I came to check on the status of the pack and to see how the resources I sent a few months back are being used."

Ambrose moved through the crunching snow with ease. freewebnoveℓ.com

While I on the other hands struggled to lift my feet out of the 1ft deep snow I was being forced to trek through.

I wouldn’t admit it, but I should have listened and put on warmer clothes.

The small airport was inside pack boundaries, but would be a long hike, luckily, they brought snowmobiles.

Excitement shot through me. I’ve never ridden a snowmobile. Anticipation had me shaking, or maybe it was the cold. Either way, I didn’t care, I would be riding a snowmobile for the very first time.
