AMBROSE’S POV:

I don’t understand why she always has to be so infuriating. Can’t she ever just do as she’s told. How the hell did her parents deal with such a disobedient little brat growing up?

It’s amazing how long she survived with none of her abilities. If she were a pup, her wolf mum would have eaten her by now.

But all the anger simmered down once I saw her face light up at the sight of a snowmobile.

"You look like you’ve never ridden a snowmobile." I chuckled not thinking it could be true.

"You’re correct I’ve never even seen one in person before." She looked a little embarrassed. It was cute.

"I guess all that changes today, you chariot awaits, my princess." I gestured towards the seat behind mine.

"Beta Damon, keep an eye on their Beta, I don’t trust them." I communicated with Damon through the channel.

"Understood, Alpha." He responded quickly.

See that’s what I’m talking about, obedience. She could stand to learn a thing or two from Damon.

Odette gladly got on the back and wrapped her hands around me. I could feel her shivering.

"You seem a little cold, maybe you should change." I suggested with maybe a bit of a teasing undertone.

"I’m fine, and I’ll be even better once we leave and get to wherever we’re staying." She shouted at me through the yowling wind.

"As you wish, princess." I used a usual condescending tone and the minute she was comfortably on, I hit the gas. Forcing her to grab hold of my waist.

We took off, I whipped the snowmobile side to side and drifted through the snow.

I hear Odette’s screams and laughs with every turn. And something about the joy in her voice drove me to keep playing.

She was having fun.

And frankly so was I.

I could feel the eyes of our entourage watching us as we played on a snowmobile in the snow.

I was consumed in the moment, I forgot I was here on a mission.

I didn’t want to stop; I wanted to keep listening to her laugh but had to be the King. So, I rejoined the pack and headed to their fortress.

I was glad to see they built a sturdy wall around their grounds. They had scouts on the top of the wall and on towers that stood tall giving a fantastic vantage point for the pack’s defenses.

Entering the packs gates, that was a different story. I could see the rushed job of some of the patch work on many of the houses. The smell of fear and death still lingered in the air. We parked the vehicles and walked over to the pack house in the center of the village.

"I’ve prepared rooms for you, Alpha King and Beta Damon, but that’s all the space we have, the women will stay with she-wolv..."

"No, this one is to stay with me in my room." I gave him an order, no way was I having my princess sleep anywhere else but my bed, from now on.

"Yes of course Alpha King." The Alpha Micca lowered his head in submission, however not before I watched glare angrily at Odette looking her up and down his eyes showing not just hate but lust.

Rip his eyes out for looking at what’s ours.

If he’s disrespectful, I will. I won’t let anyone look at her, I’ll carve their eyes from their skulls and feed them to him.

Good, that’s what I’d like to hear. I think we’re finally getting on the same page about our princess.

She’s not special to us, but I can agree, it’s not the worst thing having her around, being at my beck and call. Her fire and defiance is a nice refresher. I find it exciting and intriguing.

Until you don’t and you try and kill her.

I glare at my wolf.

You need to control your temper with her, or you’ll fuck things up between me and her.

You and her? You’re joking? freēwēbnovel.com

No. I’m not. I want you to mark her, does that not say enough.

I’d never mark her; she’s one of them. I’ll make her love us to the point she’ll pick us over them and that will be the devastating hit to that monster’s heart.

You say this now. But when I get a chance, I will take her and claim her as ours. She belongs to us. To me.

Why are you so obsessed with her, you still haven’t explained that.

I can’t explain it well, all I can really say, is the more time we spend with her the more bonded I feel the more familiar I am becoming with her. There is this pull, it’s faint. But it’s there, growing stronger in the shadow of your mind.

Then why don’t I feel it?

You lie to yourself that’s why. You feel it too, I know you do. I live in your mind. Nothing you think gets past me.

I don’t know what you’re talking about, Onyx, I feel no such thing. Maybe a bit of physical attraction, she’s hot as fuck, and her curves are a curse.

Whatever you want to tell yourself, but as long as you’re in denial you won’t feel it like I do.

Yeah, okay Onyx, do whatever you have to do to defend this newfound weakness of yours.

I was done arguing with him. He was speaking nonsense. She’s a vampire, we can’t feel a bond with their kind.

ODETTE’S POV:

The pack’s village was shabby but looked well-fortified. They looked like they spent more on preservation of a wall than they did on what lied inside. Were these run down, old and batter shacks worth protecting? Why don’t they just leave if they’re constantly being attacked here? Seems migrating somewhere else would be a better more efficient solution than defending, this...

The housing and business shops needed a lot of repairs, and maybe some paint.

With this ultra white landscape, if they painted the building white with grey trimming and the walls an even mixture of white and grey, they could blend in more with their surroundings, making their buildings more difficult to target. It would provide better cover under nightfall. White is a hard color to find distinction between, even for vampires who excel at seeing at night. I needed dim lighting, I couldn’t see in the pitch black, but blood drinking vampires could. They owned the night. I’d imagine rogue shifters would have an even harder time. And if they use fog lights at night, I bet that would even decrease the visibility providing better cover. They could do a lot to fortify their defenses, I wonder why no one has thought about that?

I was lost in thought when I heard Ambrose mention I would be sleeping in his room.

He is seriously going to go through with this, wasn’t he?

I let out a quiet sigh. There would be no peace for me it seems. I just had to suck it up and keep the wall around my heart and mind solid and sound.

I don’t know what it was, but the longer we spent together the more something in my soul pulled toward him.

The pack house was nice enough, like a 4star hotel, one with a complimentary breakfast.

I could see Ambrose’s agitation with this Alpha, wonder what the beef is?

"Come, princess, let’s get you into something... warmer..." Ambrose said to me, taking my wrist in his grip pulling me into the room.

He slammed the door behind us and then shoved me into the wall placing his arm above my head caging me beneath him. His aura became imposing and heavy, his scent flooding my senses, intoxicating me.

"We will continue what we started on the plane later after the pack dinner." He growled to me. His self-control was wavering; he looked like he had half a mind to devour every inch of me.

Luckily a knock at the door interrupted whatever steamy moment that was about to unfold. A part of me felt relieved, I wasn’t ready for another intimate kiss with this man. however, I was a tiny bit disappointed, that dark twisted part of my soul craved it.
