Chapter 53: She didn’t even hesitate
AMBROSE’S POV:
As soon as I heard the alarm I ran for her.
Odette.
My little princess.
A ran. Ran as fast as I could to our room. And she wasn’t there.
Of course she wasn’t there, should I except any different?
A smile crept up my lips, my defiant little fox.
Outside I run into Emalea.
"Where is she Emalea?" I yelled grabbing the girl by her shoulders shaking her.
"She’s... she’s... she’s on the front line, your majesty." Emalea confessed trembling in my grip. Flinching with each shake.
I toss her to the side, I don’t have time for this. "I’ll deal with you later."
I turned and ran towards all the commotion.
Let me out Ambrose, I will find our girl. I will protect her. She is ours to protect, we can’t afford to let anything happen to her. Let me out Ambrose.
Fine. Find her. Now.
About fucking time.
And just like that, I surrendered control, giving the driver seat over to Onyx.
And then I shifted.
My bones cracked and moved. My muscles changed their shape; fur grew all over my body. And in seconds I was a massive black wolf with golden strands hiding between the black fur. My eyes glowed like the sun. I stood taller than any wolf around me. My wolf’s presence commanded obedience. It was oppressive forcing others to submit around me.
The crowed parted like moses did the sea, and Onyx ran through the flying debris and burning homes. Stopping every few feet to take a bite out of some rogues. Breaking their bones in my tightly locked jaws.
Before long, my glossy black fur now covered in blood.
I was beginning to panic.
Where was she?
Onyx, find her, where is she?
I smell her, but it’s hard to track with the smoke everywhere, I can smell her on some of the wolves that lied dead on the ground.
But then in the corner of my eyes, I saw it.
I saw her.
She was darting across the battlefield, clearing bodies like fences. I followed where she was going and behind a barrel was a small blue haired girl shivering, her knees tucked into her chest, and her arms wrapped them hugging herself tightly.
My heart was thundering, my brain was reeling as I watched, frozen in place. She jumped launching herself over the girl, a row of flaming arrows rained down the field.
And this incredible and crazy woman used her body to shield that small, scared little girl.
I was enthralled in her devotion to protect one of my subjects. The vampire girl who hates wolf shifters is risking her life to save one. Just one. She was amazing and I was stunned.
Mesmerized.
Obsessed.
I could feel the shift in me while I watched her. Her strength and grit were something to marvel.
Her raw instinct to preserve and protect was powerful and impressive.
It made me feel things, things I can’t explain. Thing’s I’m not ready to face.
Three arrows struck her back, burning her. My heart lurched forward. I moved. With all the speed I could muster we moved like lightning.
I watched from the back of my mind as Onyx drove us closer to her. My heart tugging at my insides, turning my stomach inside out.
The closer we got the more blood I saw on her body. She was covered in the scent of other wolves and... her own blood. I could smell the strawberries in the air. It was distracting and I felt this sense of dread building inside me.
She cradled the girl, her grip on the girl was iron tight. She wasn’t letting go anytime soon, it looked like the girl was actually keeping Odette grounded. Like if she let go of the girl she’d collapse. And she couldn’t afford to collapse, not right now. Not while she had a purpose.
I could hear my wolf whimpering in my mind. We were both stressing her condition. Onyx nudged her only a little.
She turned sharply and hissed at me. "Don’t you touch her, or I swear I’ll fucking eat your heart out."
She was deathly serious. The look in her eyes put her somewhere far away. Did she not recognize me? Where was she?
Her eyes flashed from blood red to white to red again. Like something was trying to break free.
Even with the collar on her power was pushing through, attempting to defend her.
She did all this damage even with just her combat skill and no magic. She kept surprising me. Day in and day out, she was turning my world upside down.
I shifted back to my human form, the soldiers have pushed the rogues back, but still some stragglers remained.
One of them came at us, I felt his approach, saw his intent, but when I turned around. The wolf stopped dead in his tracks. I grabbed one of the arrows that missed and slung it at him, hard, it pierced his heart, instantly dropping.
Ambrose... She’s hurt; we need to get her to safety.
You want to get eaten? Cause I sure as shit don’t.
She doesn’t drink blood or eat flesh; she won’t eat us. Pick her up, you pussy.
If she eats us, that’s on you.
I will gladly offer myself up for her to devour. freewebnσvel.cøm
What the actual fuck dude? Are you kidding me right now.
Nope, I’d carve out my heart for her. Did you see how fierce she was? She was devastatingly beautiful and deadly. She’s strong and brave and powerful. What’s not to like?
I don’t know? Maybe it’s the fact she’s a fucking vampire and the daughter of our enemy. The goal is to make her fall in love with us and pick us over her family. Not for us to fall in love with her.
Don’t deny it, I felt how fast your heartbeat watching her give her all to save that girl, I know how hot and aroused you felt watching her clear the battlefield to save that little girl. Her ferocity is unmatched.
Nope, you’ve lost your god damn mind. Go to bed you lovesick puppy.
Then he growled at me.
Get her out of here Ambrose, or I’ll take over myself. She cannot get hurt any more than she is. I need to protect her.
Onyx, what are you talking about, you need to protect her? We fucking kidnapped her and kept her in a cage and now you want to grow a conscience on me?
I can’t explain it, Ambrose, but the longer we are with her the more I feel this pull. And the reason for the pull is getting clearer now. I don’t know how I know this, but I have to protect her. We have too. She’s mine. She’s ours.
