Chapter 31: Time to eat
The orc’s breath ragged, fumes of smoke flowing out of its nostrils.
Despite the bulging, grotesquely pumped muscles writhing under his skin, his body heaved with exhaustion.
Just ahead, the last remaining orc warrior wobbled unsteadily on its feet. One leg dragged behind it, and a deep, red gash stretched behind its knee.
It should’ve collapsed by now—but it remained standing with pure willpower, and fury at Riley.
"Grrr!" It bared his fangs at the teenager, letting out a loud growl.
Riley stood casually across from them, blades loose in his grip. A smirk flickered across his face—taunting, almost playful—as his gaze locked onto the panting leader.
The orc’s nostrils flared. freёwebnoѵel.com
Roarr!
And it roared.
A guttural, bone-rattling cry that shook leaves from the trees.
Then it charged.
BOOM!
Its colossal feet shattered the earth beneath them as it lunged forward, sword raised high.
The weapon gleamed howling as it split the air.
Swoosh!
It brought it down with killing force—aimed to split Riley in two.
But—
Riley vanished.
One heartbeat, he stood there.
The next—gone.
BOOM!
The sword cleaved into empty air, then crashed into the ground with a deafening explosion.
Chunks of soil, roots, and shattered stone flew outward in a jagged arc. The force of the strike carved another crater into the forest floor, sending tremors up the leader’s arms.
The orc blinked, momentarily stunned.
Where—?
Then he heard it.
A wet, gurgling sound.
The cry of his comrade—muffled, choking.
The orc snapped his head to the side.
And froze.
The last standing orc warrior now had a thin, brown spike lodged in its throat, blood spilling in thick streams down its chest.
Its eyes bulged in disbelief as it grasped at its neck.
Riley stood atop its broad shoulder, grinning.
Smug. Calm. Unbothered.
The injured orc collapsed seconds later with a massive THUD, shaking the earth beneath it.
Blood pooled beneath its body, leaking from the fatal wound.
Riley leapt down before it hit the ground—his figure vanishing into the rising dust cloud like a phantom.
The orc leader’s heart thundered in his chest.
Another comrade, slain.
Three now... all gone.
Roarr!!
He threw his head back and roared to the skies, in agony and fury.
"Laduroeh! Yaisjk!!" It shouted in a strange thought, his words filled with rage.
His arms swung violently, sword slicing through the air.
WHOOOSH!
The sheer power behind each swing released arcs of violent wind, so sharp and fast they tore through the forest.
Trees split. Rocks cracked.
Even thick trunks were sheared cleanly in half as if struck by an invisible blade.
But Riley?
Nowhere to be seen.
Not a shadow. Not a flicker.
Not even the orc could sense him.
The leader’s breaths came faster, muscles twitching under his skin.
And then—
"Looking for me?"
A familiar voice, calm and confident, sounded right behind it.
The orc whipped around with a snarl, slamming its massive blade in that direction, aiming to cleave Riley in half once and for all.
BOOM!
The sword exploded against the earth again, sending debris high into the air.
Another deep groove carved into the land.
But...
No resistance.
No weight on the blade.
He hadn’t hit anything.
The orc’s eyes widened.
A shadow flickered on the length of his own sword—
—and Riley suddenly appeared, crouched low on the flat of the blade, springing upward like a coiled viper.
He flew through the air toward the orc’s chest, blades flashing in his hands.
The orc snarled and swung his hand, fingers spread wide to crush him.
But Riley twisted midair, weaving between the thick fingers with practiced agility.
SLASH!
A dagger plunged into the orc’s upper arm.
—30!
A red notification blinked above its head.
The orc flinched—but barely.
The attack had done almost nothing, too weak to tear through its hide and armour.
Still, the orc grunted lightly, annoyed.
It flung its massive arm to the side, intending to launch Riley like a broken twig.
But Riley had already leapt away—light as smoke, landing squarely on the orc’s shoulder.
Before the monster could react—
STAB!
Another blade sank into its shoulder joint.
—50!
Blood spurted out this time—less than before, but enough to sting.
The orc howled in frustration, then slammed its huge palm down on its own shoulder, trying to crush the pest.
But Riley was gone again.
SLASH!
—50!
Another stab. From the other side now.
The orc spun around with a growl, and its glowing red eyes locked onto Riley once more—
Hovering just past its head.
Perched lightly on a broken, hanging vine.
His expression?
That same smug face.
Like he wasn’t even trying.
The orc’s heart pounded louder. This time, not just with rage, but also something else... fear.
This human—this tiny, fragile thing—wasn’t just fast, he was also extremely terrifying!
"I wonder..." Riley said softly, tapping a finger against his own cheek as though pondering something trivial. "How long can you last... before your power runs out?"
The orc leader let out another savage roar and swung its sword wildly.
Riley was already gone.
CRASH!
The sword missed again—shattering a boulder behind the clearing.
The orc panted, his strength beginning to ebb. Just as Riley said, the once-vibrant glow of the red tattoos along his arms began to flicker.
The orc’s bulking muscles shrunk, their power waning from exhaustion.
And Riley?
He was still at full speed, smirking as he dashed across the forest.
The orc staggered.
"Roar..." It roared weakly, its feet scraping along the ground as it tried to charge again.
However, its bulky legs trembled under the weight of their own frame.
Then—
Riley appeared.
Standing in front of it, with a slight smirk curling along his lips.
He lifted a hand and waved playfully. "What’s wrong? Aren’t you going to chase me anymore?"
He tilted his head. "Too tired?"
The orc snarled—though it barely sounded like a growl anymore—and took one shaky step forward.
But its knees buckled.
Thud!
It dropped down.
Just then—
Pssht!
A brown spike whistled through the air, shooting from Riley’s palm.
STAB!
—70!
The spike slammed into the orc’s shoulder, punching clean through the muscle and exiting from the other side with a spurt of red.
The orc flinched hard, its entire body convulsing from the force of the strike.
Blood sprayed from the puncture, splattering across the ground as the beast let out a muted grunt.
Its entire frame began to shiver.
Riley’s smirk widened as he approached slowly.
"Time to end this."
He dashed forward, closing the gap in a flash. With one leap, he spun midair and slashed both blades across the orc’s thick neck in a perfect X-motion.
SLAASH!
—140.52! [Critical Hit!]
Twin trails of crimson sprayed from the creature’s throat. Its head tilted back, eyes wide in shock.
The beast collapsed backward with a massive THUD, the earth groaning beneath its weight.
Its neck continued to pump blood in powerful spurts, coating the grass in thick, sticky red.
But it wasn’t dead.
Not yet.
Its eyes stared up at the canopy, unblinking.
Its chest still rose and fell—slowly, weakly—as it choked on its own blood.
Riley stood over it, watching silently.
For a long few seconds, he said nothing—just calmly swiped the blood off his blades.
Then, he sheathed one of the daggers.
"You were strong," he said casually. "Too bad you were up against me."
A final flick of his wrist—
PSSHT!
Another spike flew from his hand.
It sank deep into the orc’s forehead, right between the eyes.
A faint twitch, and then—
Stillness.
A bright notification flared across its fading gaze.
[You have killed Level 16 Red Orc Warrior!]
[+180 EXP!]
Riley’s grin widened.
He turned, eyes flicking across the carnage he had left behind. Four orc corpses surrounded him, their massive bodies splayed out like broken titans.
He licked his lips.
"...Time to eat."
