Chapter 79: Kareth

Chapter 79: Kareth

Mourne was also frozen solid to the side, and he slowly turned to look at his master.

It was clear to the two of them then.

They would never try to mess with Severin Reignhart.

To them, information is a very strong weapon, and Severin seems to have quite a lot of it.

The creation of the fake gang was known only to Zhara and Mourne.

And yet, just like before, he knew about it.

Zhara tried to play it off. "The bloody cats can do it, but why? Just who did you want to give the letter to?"

"This is for the WireRats’ safety more than mine. I’ll tell you, you really don’t want the letter to be tracked back to you."

"Who’s the person?"

"I want you to deliver the letter to the Kareth family."

There was a slight pause.

Every single person froze.

From Zhara to Julius, and even Derrick.

The Kareth family.

One of the strongest Etherion user families that has existed since the founding of the Empire and before Etherion users rose to prominence on Old Earth.

It was said that the Kareths fought with the heroes against the monster tides back when we returned from the stars.

They are a family of bodyguards.

That’s what they do. They get paid to guard VIPs and powerful nobles. They are famous for their ice powers and their strength. Known for their ruthlessness, and not only for that, they have been known for getting paid to hit on people or retrieve lost items.

Zhara swallowed. "If it’s the bloody cats, then it can be done through them. Although the cost will be high. Young Master Severin, can you please tell me what the letter is aimed to do?"

He had no reasons to hide it. "I want to hire them to go against the Scar."

Again, everyone was surprised.

The Scar?

Severin knew something about them? Enough that he could write the Kareth family about it?

Zhara leaned back in her seat, and after a while, she shook her head. "Thank you, young Master, but please, you don’t need to say any more."

There is some information even the information vendor did not want to hear.

Severin took some papers from his pocket and placed them on the table. "This will be your payment."

She took it, and her hands trembled slightly as she read. It was all important information that a low gang information vendor like them shouldn’t have.

But somehow, Severin had it.

Zhara folded it and gave it to Mourne.

Then she asked, "Young Master Severin, I want to propose a formal partnership between the two of us."

’.....Yes! Took you long enough... I’ve been waiting for you guys to do this since, but it seems you’re just waking up... anyway... I’ve finally seen the first sponsor for my House...’

"Partnership? Alright." Severin shrugged. "But do not forget that I have a House."

"Of course. We will take the partnership together with everything that comes with it."

Severin cut to it then. "What do you want?"

What else? For the guy who knew where the Scar are and so much information without leaving the Academy, they could naturally want one thing from him.

And that was information.

"Information."

Severin nodded. "Then it’s settled then."

They both signed some papers, since it was a formal partnership, but there wasn’t really anything stated in it about what they would do for each other.

Only, ’help to the best of their abilities’ was there.

That means what they would be doing was open to interpretation.

Severin didn’t mind, inasmuch as they both would do what they have to do.

There wasn’t much to do after that, and everyone went their separate ways.

But the WireRats felt as if they had invited a snake into their house. Would the snake just be, or would it turn on them?

Jitome Kareth.

The family head of House Kareth felt as if a lightning bolt fell from the sky and struck him directly on the head.

He was sitting in his study, surrounded by different family members that had rushed there following the summons from him.

"Where did you get this again?" He was a slender man with little meat on his body, but his eyes were as sharp as a razor and as cold as the depths.

One of the branch family heads stepped forward and bowed. "It was dropped on the door to my house."

"Who did it?"

"We have started investigating, and so far we know that one of the gang members of the Bloody Cats gang dropped it on my doorstep, and the Bloody Cats have been disbanded, scattering into the wind."

Jitome’s face tightened. "A fake gang then."

He raised the paper. "This is a letter written by someone who wants to hire me directly to deal with the members of the Scar that are hiding in the capital."

Soft murmuring rolled through the room.

"For payment, they provided the place where one of the highest-grade artifacts of the family that was lost is."

This time, there was stillness as all of them stiffened.

The temperature in the room dropped sharply as their eyes glinted.

There are several artifacts that belong to the family.

But of the highest, first grades, there are only three.

Two were lost, and one still remains in the family.

"It’s said here that it’s the Shield of the Depth, and the location has been written down for us."

Jitome continued. "And as a bonus, we’ve been told where the skeleton of my father is."

This time it was frost that covered the ground as uproar rose among them.

"What? The former family head?"

"What the hell?"

"His skeleton? Do you think it’s the killers writing us?"

The former family head, Jitome’s father, was killed on a mission, and only his head was delivered. It was a humiliating, shocking event because the man was simply too powerful to die like that.

Jitome’s eyes hardened. He raised the paper. "This mission, I will personally take it. But as usual, I want the payment first. Let’s check this artifact and my father’s remains."

"They better not be lying to me."
